I understand going with the grey since it is an 80's style house. You could also do bright bold colors. I do not know if that is your style. I have attached a quick rendering of the gray scheme you mentioned. I prefer light colors above dark colors. This keeps in theme with the sky and earth. Makes the house seem more grounded. The dark entry also draws your eye to it especially with the light coming from the other side of the house. I have also attached a quick rendering of a blue scheme. Changing out my pendant lights dramatically changed my kitchen for the better. The slim modern horizontal shapes made the room feel wider and the colour changed the colour of the wood grain finish of the cabinets.

My new kitchen will be light grey cabinets, white and grey stone bench tops. My current dining table is a clear glass top, black leather chairs with chrome legs/framing. I love these gold polished glass pendants for over my island bench but will they look okay with my dining suite or is it too different? I can go for the grey glass lights but they are quite opaque during the day.
