Design idea for Fireplace in the living area and the feature wall

Hello All,

We are putting a Gazco eReflex 110W 3-Sided Electric Fireplace (Size 1110mm x 352mm) in living area somewhere in the red marked section. Currently the marked FP in plan is just a place holder.

We prefer to have a TV on that wall as well. So looking for some good ideas or inspirational photos for such wall.

What I heard from a builder is, if we put TV on top of FP it will be bit high viewing angle from sofa/chairs etc. Do you think its good idea to put the FP on side or TV on top of FP?

We might have to place the sofa/chairs accordingly. So that's why looking for some good ideas or inspirational photos for such wall (with TV and FP).

And any good ideas on making that wall feature itself?

Yes tv next to fireplace looks more modern, makes fireplace the highlight, a long low unit built in would look fabulous.

The TV viewing angle would be bit higher. Sharing an inspiration image for your reference. Get a cultured stone on the wall or can get a wallpaper to make it as a feature wall

In your situation with being a rectangle lounge room, I would look at a tv next to the fireplace, not above.

As chookchook said in her recommendation about painting, put a drop cloth on the floor. Get a very safe ladder. remove the lightbulbs, and cover the outlets. Turn off the electricity to the chandelier. Then spray it with a mild cleaner (I use one I found at Target that's basically water with vinegar, until it's dripping wet. Start at the bottom and work your way up, so you don't have dirty spray dripping on the bottom of the chandelier.Work your way up and down until the dripping spray is clean. The chandelier may be gorgeous and expensive, but it seems totally out of place in the architecture of the room--more at home in a chalet than a sunny room with a window wall. I would probably try to find a way to get it removed, and sell it to someone who appreciated it better than I.

Hey! Great space! The table is too small for the space, it would immediately help if you had head chairs on either end of the table. It would read larger. If you're interested in a new dining set, try a round dining table, seating at least 6 for size. You need something to define each space, a new furniture arrangement could help. I would try rotating the sectional so that its off of the window. Good Luck!

We have been renovating an 80's home with a vaulted roof in the living/kitchen/dining area, something like your picture. We needed to make the space look bigger so we opted to hang our tv from the roof using an Adtec tv bracket in white, pretty nifty unit, all wiring, aerials etc go up the mounting pole and through the roof. The unit also swivels 360 degrees which is great for any view point in the room, including our outside area. We had a tv unit custom built by Jarramar Furniture which is like a rather large floating cupboard. The unit has 2 draws and one cupboard. All the cords etc come down the wall in the adjoining room behind the door, neatly packed into duct and back into the back of the floating cupboard. It's very neat and tidy, keeps everything off the ground and makes your space look bigger. Both Adtec and Jarramar have websites where you can check out their stuff. You just need to ensure your tv weights are ok for the Adtec unit your wish to purchase. Good luck with your design.

Hello Annalisa, I think the fp next to tv would make room look longer. take a balance along the 5m wall with the two items towards center so as the ends can take the back of a chair if you are squeezing in a party crowd! BOOKs, vases, trinkets, books to finish the space. :) Margot

Ask your builder if he can get a hinge system that can pull the tv down when you want to watch it. Otherwise your builder is right in the fact that in designing there is a specific position a tv should sit at for comfy watching. In saying that I have been at many pubs where the tv is high up on the wall where I have to really snap my neck back to watch and I have been fine. In saying this I have also had a few which makes me invincible.

The link you shared shows fires about 1.5 mets off the ground?!?
Why so high...can it not be 400mm off ground then tv a bit above, which would make more pleasant viewing .?

Thank you everyone, guys you gave very nice reference, much appreciated.

As the room is about 4 x 5.5m, so looks like FP next to tv would make room look longer is good plan. But I am bit confused to decide which side would be good for FP ...should I put it on laundry side (option1) or on opposite side (option2)? Please also note it is a 3-sided FP as shown in this picture:

Problem with option1 : It will look on complete detached on one side of the room and attach to laundry wall it may not look good...

Problem with option2: Being close to the window (3,000×2,340) it not be efficient choice...

I may be wrong with these assumptions of two options, so please help to share your thoughts and if possible any more inspirational images which are specifically aligned with setup like ours ( rectangular room) will be very appreciated.

Opt 1 has it in corner. It needs to be further in. If they are only opts go opt 2

Thanks Kate. Its not the case that we have only those 2 options :)

Those are just my ideas, we are open to consider any other possible ways...so looking forward for inputs here:)

I'd put it roughly in middle (not of room but of the area marked as cabinetry) and place the tv on one side of it

I think I'd place tv on the right side and flip your furniture layout so sofa chaise is on other side

@annalisa86 My wife & I are having similar discussion for our new home. I would go with FP being in line with kitchen dining & walk way between pictured furniture to make it a feature & utilise 3 sided viewing with tv at sitting height towards window to create a tv area. I add picture of our current house FP only to say I love sitting in front of it watching flames but hate every other angle so good idea going gas & 3 sided

Hi, I hope you are still out there.? My room layout looks almost the same as yours andmy Building Designer specified a 2 walled gas fireplace in the design, same look as the GAZCO EREFLEX 110W ELECTRIC FIREPLACE. Due to building costs blowing out since DA approval, it looks like I will have to scrap the fireplace but then I noticed this electric fire which seems reasonably priced and I will not have to install a gas line. Still a big investment (especially with cabinetry) so I was wondering if 2yrs on you are happy with your purchase? does it heat the room and look real? any advice is very appreciated.
