• we're very pleased that we made the decisions to reroof with Colorbond ..we also had the old fascias, eaves, gutters and downspipes repaired and/or replaced and don't expect to ever have to think about the roof again ..it does feel like a huge expense but if the roof isn't waterproof enough to withstand the pressure wash i would always be waiting for the old concrete tiles to fail in the next major storm and nothing worse than a leaking roof

I’m not an expert but replace the tiles with Colourbond. I’m planning on doing the same to my 70yo roof. A 40 year Warranty would see me out.

I am in Brisbane. It’s worth getting a few quotes. I also read reviews on Whirlpool. I had a few quotes in the 6-8K range just to reseal and well over 15K for Colorbond; those were big companies who advertise a lot and I didn’t appreciate the hard sell. I heard the same spiel about aging and cracking tiles but my tradesman assured me my tiles were just fine and easily replaced if there were any broken ones (he replaced two). We have a 10 year warranty on the work. We’ll be fine for another 25 years.

Why are the tiles brittle? That doesn't sound right after 30 years?

I would suggest that the word brittle has been used as part of the sales pitch to replace the roof. Cement tiles are very robust and do not become brittle, even after 50 years. Many historic buildings have cement tiles and no one is racing to switch to colour bond. ;)

Mine are brittle but I’ve just realised that they are terracotta not cement. They’ve lost or losing their glazing after weathering 70years of coastal weather. If you have a single story home you can always check the brittleness yourself. But agree always be aware of sales pitches.

My only concern with colourbond would be the noise when heavy rain.
