What cushions should we get for our living room
Hello,
We have just bought new sofas and occasional chairs from King Furniture and a rug from the Rug Establishment. The sofa is a warm grey, the occasional chairs are teal and the rug is called sea mist (mix of greens, blues, neutrals).
Now we really need some help with cushions.
My husband wants to "push the boat out" with the cushions because the thinks the current looks is "muted". I quite like the calm feel of the room.
I would like a look that is interesting and a bit sophisticated.
The colours I've been playing with for the cushions are in the rust/ ochre/ tobacco/ copper palette because we'll be renovating the adjoining kitchen with copper-look laminex on some of the cupboard doors. Rest of the doors will be dark grey/ basalt.
Any advice would be so welcome!

Comments (13)There is nothing worse than ceiling-mounted lights--harsh shadows, flat lighting. They are strictly for utility. I would put a large-ish, shallow cylindrical shade on them and put nothing more than a 15-watt bulb in them. Use them strictly for lighting your way as you walk through the room. I agree with Vincent; the chair in the corner doesn't fit at all, nor does the one under the A/C unit (put that one with its mate behind the love seat). And the curtains look smooshed. I think the problem with the bookcases is that they are uninteresting. Did you buy books-by-the-yard? What are all those identical books? They are visually uninteresting. I'd get rid of some of them and get some colorful ceramics/glass/photos. The room is absolutely overwhelmed with furniture. It needs one less love seat. Do you really need all of them? Pushing them against the walls/curtains so tightly just visually emphasizes the fact that there is too much furniture. I don't think a mirror above the fireplace will work. When people are sitting down (which is most of the time), all they will see is a reflection of the ceiling--the plain, white ceiling. Comments (5)A few simple steps can give your room a lot more vibe! Try pairing the drapes with sheer curtains, that will give the window more depth. The tv wall could be your accent wall, a dark blue would actually work very well. If the TV has backing, I would hang it on the wall, a few inches above the furniture piece. The two frames above the white dresser should go below the wall clock. Instead, a large art piece (about the length of the dresser) would complement that wall much better. I would also replace the coffee table with a rectangular, heavier glass and metal table, placed in the center. Also pillows. Comments (6)Hmm, I'd aim for balance. The last time these colours were in fashion, in the very early 1990s, I had light pink, light blue , light green and black. In some rooms there was white instead of black. They all worked well together. There are lots of recent pastel rooms on Houzz photos. Also florals are about to appear on the scene, in big digital murals and digital printing on cushions, on rugs, etc. it's a modern version, but still florals. Comments (1)I think, like you said, due to the fact that there's a larger space when it comes to the hotel lobbies is the reason as to why it works. I think that no matter what you put on the walls (whether it be concrete or marble) will result in tiles not working out. The industrial look tends to be exposed brickwork anyway, or cream or white colours so maybe that's an option you could look into. What did you end up doing?...See MoreC P

I'm thinking the pigeon cushions will go on the two teal tub chairs and the M&S cushions will go on the two sofas. I'll need another cushion for the 2 sofas, probably a smaller rectangular one so there's 3 cushions per sofa. But I'll wait until my online orders arrive and I see the colours in real life.
