Staircase costs and options

We are building a new house and contract includes open tread durian timber stairs in with side stinger and stainless steel and cable balustrade. I‘m wanting a more rustic look hopefully without going broke. It’s a straight staircase with a 2.7m ceiling height on the ground floor.
The builder will do a single metal stringer but indicating a additional cost of around $7K. Does that seem reasonable?
I could get the timber stained with something like resene colourwood enhance or a WD stain. Does that seem sensible/possible to get a more aged look?
What is the cost of a typical durian timber tread? Maybe totally unaffordable to source my own recycled timber treads?
Any other suggestions? Help!!
