Your space is quite roomy at almost 23 feet by 16 feet 5 inches. It would help us to see all four walls. Is this going to be an area where you will eat as well as watch TV? I would put in some recessed lighting: (I like the idea of painting the ceiling a light blue or yellow.) You need to have table lamps and or floor lamps as well. If those are light fixtures on the beam, I would remove them and repair the beam. Would you husband be open to staining the beams darker? Something like this: A fireplace mantel like the one in the Crisp photo would finish off the fireplace. With yellow and cream, you could go with warm colors, browns reds and oranges or blues and green.

Oh so cool you noticed that we're trying to achieve a french country/industrial look or did we write that somewhere? I've attached some other photos of a bedroom and the foyer (of those we've taken so far), but are absolutely open to suggestions on a "beachy" feel as well or instead of. You can follow watch for on sale drapery until you can get a lot that is the same. Put the rod at the same height over the mirror as it is over the window. You might paint an inspirational quote at the top of the mirror in the dark coral (using a stencil) so that you visually fill the space between the top of the mirror and the top of the window. I cant imagine that tiles on concrete will be any colder than concrete alone. But the choice of colour may make a difference to the heat absorption qualities; dark tiles will absorb heat better than light coloured ones.
