I need your help - dining chair (pics inc)

I need your help choosing dining chairs for our integrated table.

The dining end of the table has brown messmate wood, visiually this looks through to white cabinetry. To the right is the solid black of the island (which has been used as a feature with the lights, taps and window frames). The brown cabinet at the back will also have black long handles fitted. The style of the bench is quite a solid style though the feature light is finer.

Not sure if it’s important but the roof is low.

Hi, love that you love bold colors and patterns. I think a rug that will help to highlight what you've started in your space without competing with it would be beautiful. Because most of your patterns are medium to large in size, I would probably recommend a rug that has some black in it and even with a pattern but with a different scale pattern (much larger or smaller/more subtle) than what is shown in your pillows, chair and lamp. Here are some examples.... Mostly of rooms with bolder (black and white) patterns and the rugs that were used with them. In pic 3, a rug with a larger scale pattern was used in combination with pillows, drapes with smaller or no pattern (and with black/white contrasts). Your space would be the reverse application I think....like in pic 4. I also love the idea of a bolder, more contrasting in color (like the colors of your pillows, etc.) of a cowhide rug. Perhaps even a hair on hide rug.

Hey! Great space! The table is too small for the space, it would immediately help if you had head chairs on either end of the table. It would read larger. If you're interested in a new dining set, try a round dining table, seating at least 6 for size. You need something to define each space, a new furniture arrangement could help. I would try rotating the sectional so that its off of the window. Good Luck!

Get the professional sander guys in to repair the living areas and kitchen but don't go too dark with the stain as it will kill the lovely grain in the matai. I'm thinking a couple of tones richer than the timber knots showing in your photo, definitely no yellow tone at all. In NZ stepping on to carpet especially in a kiwi winter is so much nicer than a cold floor board shock!!! A nice area rug for the lounge and you're done.

Hi Jennifer K, thanks for your comments. The photos you have posted are really lovely but not really suited to our environment and house, which I know is impossible to tell from one photo. We have built a modern farmhouse on 10 acres. That room looks out to beautiful green countryside and the river below. The dining room is a bit of a feature and is completely different to the rest of our relaxed lodgey style house but I don't want it to be too modern, if that makes sense. The photos have given me a few ideas so thank you so much for your help!

Your kitchen looks amazing. I would go for all black chairs, they reference the rest of the kitchen. Any chair with wood introduces another type of timber which is tricky to match and takes away from the minimalist palette you have.

Definitely not wood colour, it would detract from the existing. Have you planned the rest of the space? Are you having stools? What other “wooden” pieces will be in the space eg coffee/lamp tables?

We will have two stools at the bench but will worry about that later. Just trying to find a low coffee table to complement the couches. Thinking messmate? It would sit here…
