I personally would not install the toilet in that space. People like a private space to do their ablutions. This is not private.

I don’t see a prob. I assume you need a an additional toilet somewhere. To door can be to the right of the entry door. Do it as a concealed door so it looks more like a cupboard

For aesthetics and even feng shui it’s a bad idea. It’s not what I would want and I’d try and avoid. But all buildings have compromises. Is your need for a bathroom greater than a pleasant looking and smelling entry? How much traffic does the entry have vs the use of the toilet?

Thanks all. Currently the family member thinks there are NO issues with this so there is no pros-and-cons analysis to be made (i.e. they think it's all pros). All I was trying to do to start was extract a concession it is abnormal and then hopefully go to a more meaningful dialogue from there.

There are other places that a WC could be put but they have their own issues (which others in the family are at least willing to conceed exist).

@Kate not exactly sure what you mean by "to the right of entry door" but note that the bottom facing wall is less than 1.5m high (slanting roof) so door placement is probably limited to the top of foyer.

Why not get some plans drawn up , following this suggestion ? Instead of having the toilet in in the red area , why not get a builder to install a 'window seat' out through the right hand side wall . Have the bench part of it approx 50cm above the veranda floor level , the full width of that right hand wall , and cut a 30cm hole through the centre . Glue a nice cheap plastic toilet seat around this hole , and put a 99cent bucket in the garden below , directly below the 30cm hole .

A piece of broom stick makes a good toilet roll holder .

Job done ( no pun intended much . . . . . ) , and a great reminder of outback Orstralia . . . . . . .

I've never really thought too much , but a good executive makes a decision BUT makes it seem like everyone else wants that decision and came up with it in the first place , so the exec will go along because they are such a good person haha . Dictators don't make good executives , even though they think they do -- in fact , I suspect most dictators are divorced haha . . . . . . . .

Oh, this is going to be very uncomfortable for those on the toilet when guests show up. Ditto for those guests!

Go with the family. Add good sound proofing and a very good extraction fan that turns on automatically with the light. Everyone will be happy! Plus, you’ll have easy access to a toilet after you mow the lawn! :)

I really don’t think it’s a good idea to have a toilet in the front entrance of a house. This would certainly not add value to your home.

I'm in favour of having a toilet and hand washing area between the garden and the house, so if this is the only option then it's not terrible. Good ventilation and a well-concealed door - maybe make people using it walk around a few tall pot plants.

It's a bit hard to tell without seeing the whole layout, but before making a decision I would investigate the logistics. There are rules in the BCA about where toilets can be placed, and it wll be more expensive to install one in a concrete slab, depending on whether S or P. I would seek the advice of a professional builder before making a decision. Kate has provided you with a few good layouts but they all make the entrance to your house into a mudroom, as you say. If you must do it, make it hidden (e.g. the door is seamless in the wall so it just looks like a cupboard). Everyone needs an extra dunny somewhere, but just think carefully about amenity - where are family/guests going to be when they want to use it? Outside? Somewhere in the house? Then locate the dunny close to where that is so you don't have to give people a long set of directions to find it. Best of luck.

To bring some closure, the idea was (thankfully, in my opinion) nixed. We're planning putting another toilet elsewhere (a more private location) in the house!
