Help! Gap between cavity slider and brick wall
I am putting a large cav slider at the end of my transition hallway to new extension as a way to shut the area off (kid free zone haha). My dilemma is what to do about the opening. i would like the door hidden when not in use. the space where it will be is between a new plaster wall and a feature brick wall. the bricks leave me with around a 30mm gap to the door, then the door itself is around 40mm, so an opening of 70mm. any ideas?
This photo shows where the gap will be, the hall side will be plastered to the edge of the faming, then square set, where the concrete step is protruding it will be bricked to level with the front of that step. I want that door to be hidden when not being used.

They currently have wonderful garden centers in Merrifield and Fairfax (both in Fairfax County) and a new one in Gainesville, but they may come further south to wherever you reside. Comments (5)thank you for your comment. we are looking at using the interior wall, opposite the sink, for ceiling height cupboards utilising the wall cavities so as not to crowd the thoroughfare. I will keep a look out for replacement wooden windows. i would like to move them to the left so as to create more space in the corner area for hopefully a fridge? what to do with the fridge?...See MorePlease critique our kitchen design
Comments (6)Thanks for your comments everyone. We've taken your advice (Luke and NH) and changed the island to a rectangle (1200 x 3000). We lose one breakfast bar seat but gain storage and dining room space plus it shortens the distances from the island to the cooktops. It also removes the need for a corner carousel. We're much happier with this result. Dairy_maid, we've done what you suggested and walked through some common tasks. Overall it works reasonably well although we may keep some coffee spoons and butter knives in the scullery drawers for morning toast and coffee. We've also invested in a "silent" rangehood which has the motor on the outside of the house behind the fridge and we've upgraded the scullery sink to one that is 600 x 400 (internal size). Comments (51)A very simple layout keeping the floor space within the kitchen, the WIP takes up a lot of space with not much gain, The broom cupboard could be moved to the Laundry/entrance, narrow. If the wall has been bumped out to the eaves on the deck side giving an extra 300 depth to the kitchen you could make the island 2700 x 1200 and all drawers. last yearwe have several cavity sliders and walking through the doorways every day i forget that the doors are inside the walls as the only obvious sign is the small handle that has a lift up hook to pull out and although your hinged cover may work well there will still need to be a similar handle recessed into the edge of the door and the hinged panel will have to project above the architrave to allow the hinge to function ...interesting challenge for your carpenter
