Looks normal to me. I’d be more worried about the bench top edge, is that an uneven join?

The type of stone you have chosen might not come in 40mm. The thickest stone available for that colour stone, maybe be 20mm or 30mm then a mitre edge join in made to make it look like it is 40mm thick. Therefore has the L shaped edge gap that you can see when looking under bench.

As a comparison my stone bench top thickness came in 30mm. no mitre edge, no gap.

And I assume your lying on the floor to get that photo of under bench.

Thanks for your reply. Yes, I took the photo when I laid down. Your benchtop looks more sleek. My site supervisor said the 40mm stone benchtop I chose is for the edge only. The top piece stone is still 20mm, hence there will be a gap. But this is something I don’t understand. Why the cabinet maker not making the top board wider to avoid the gap? Is it a mistake or neglect when they did the measurement?

If standback 2 meters, it won’t be visible.

It looks like the edge of some composition board which was used to raise the height of the narrow stone benchtop to allow for the deep edge so the drawers and cupboards can open

In Victoria stone benchtops are fitted over an under board. It’s not as common in NSW. The Poster has a perfectly standard installation for the type of benchtop used.

The composite board is sometimes done in strips to lift and support benchtop, which is quite normal. My benchtop was done this way as I used Plywood for my benchtop and this gave a shadow line

Thank you all for your helpful feedback. I think I am now kind of accepting why it was made like this, although I still don’t like the looking but it is not obvious.

In WA the stone is put directly onto cabinets. So the actual internal “ceiling” of my kitchen lower cabinets in my island and along wall is the caesarstone. However the drawers are a complete built carcass, with caesarstone installed on the top of carcasses.

If the wood showing bothers you that much, when you move in, buy some paint and paint it. But, realistically how many people will notice it unless you point it out?
