That height is standard for 4 drawer. You have and they should have used the deeper sides. I would request change. Or you can add a concealed drawers inside. Notwithstanding for a lot of uses they will be functional for things that stack

2nd sentence is missing “3”- drawers

There are many different designs it depends on what carcasses your cabinet maker uses.

I have attached photos of my drawers. The larger drawers have 10cm sides then an additional rail all installed very professionally. I have tried to photograph the back of drawer which is 17cm high with the rail attached to that. The same concept is on all my less deep drawers. I hope you meant your drawers have 8cm sides not 8mm….. maybe you can get the cabinet maker to install the same type of rail, which I thought was a standard thing. But then things seem to be done differently in the eastern states.

With the back being low on your drawers, you might find things may fall out the back of them. That would be an issue…

As an example from my kitchen. This drawer has a 30cm panel at the front. 17cm high panel at the back with 10cm high panels on sides, then the additional rails. My smaller drawers have an 18cm panel at the front, 10cm panel at back and the sides, with no rails.

Hi Dreamer, yes it is 8cm, not 8mm. The pot drawers and bathroom drawers in my new house are actually the same concept as the photos you posted. Low panel plus a rail for the sides and high panels for the front and back. Only these two cabinets drawers have low panels for the sides and the back. I attached their drawings. When I approved the drawings, I thought the drawers are indicating only. I am now kind of accepting the 4 drawers, but still think the 3 drawers not deep enough (not even half of drawer height) Thank you for sharing the photos.

Can you approach the cabinet maker to install the rails on the bank of three drawers. Just concerned about low rear panel is as well.

I would be concerned about the deep drawers having low sides as it will restrict what you will be able to store in them. Even my Kaboodle/Bunnings drawers have tall solid sides, you have a choice of these or metal.

I was going to make this comment on your other thread but here is just as good. You have a new build (given you have a site supervisor) and probably won’t have direct access to any of the trades used. A lot of our advice is more directed to where you do have access to the trades. Given you don’t have access to the trades you won’t be able to request changes to plans and fittings you’ve already signed off on. Some builders may make changes for a variation cost but you are really past this stage. The cost to do any changes with the builder now will be high and they may not want to do it at all. My best advice is move in, enjoy the property and see what really bothers you after you’ve been there a while. Any changes you can organise directly with trades in the future will be cheaper than doing them through your current builder. My second best bit of advice would be to stop focusing on cosmetic things and make sure you have a proper independent handover inspection done of the construction work.

All good advice but I always say "if you don't ask you don't get" which also relates to building. Attention to detail is the difference between a good build and a bad one

Or a simple inexpensive fix would be to move in to your home and purchase plastic boxes as inserts for your drawers to add the height to the sides and rear of drawers.

Thank you for your advices. It makes sense. It is always difficult to make changes after jobs completion. I would only request changes if it is obviously defective. For the construction work, I did approach a private inspector to check it.
