Tiling Angled Wall

Hi,

Due to small space, want to mount a frameless door directly onto the wall which I’ve been told I can do with specific hinges. To do this, I would need to make an angled wall for the hinge go into and it would need to be 70mm wide minimum and attached at a 90 degree angle. This angled wall will be tiled to the ceiling as wet area. I also want to incorporate a ledge too.

Does anyone see any issues with doing this? Would I need mitre cuts or a tile angle? Am i better off having the door hinge of a return glass panel instead?

Just to clarify, are you proposing a new shower enclosure with a fixed panel at the end of the bath and a door at 45/135 degrees to that panel hinged from the wall corner?

Assuming that is the case, you don't need a full wall of 70mm framing which will make the shower smaller. You just need a good strong fixing point for the hinges. Fix a 90 x 45 stud to the wall on the outside corner of the shower with it cut at 45 degrees on the shower side. Make sure it is securely fixed with stainless steel skrews to the existing studs avoiding the location of the hinge fixings.

Will you get a proper closure with the door meeting the fixed panel at 135 degrees or do you need a small return panel on the fixed side for the door to close to? Check with your manufacturer of the glass. It need only be a 50mm or 75mm strip but you will get a tight gap that wont allow much water to penetrate.

Obviously, ensure the whole enclosure is fully waterproofed after you have lined it and created the right slope in the floor for tiling etc.

If you are seeking a truly open feel to the floor plan you have shared, then using one material in the mail living area is the best approach to making this space feel truly open. Using a variety of materials on flooring chops up the space and decreases the visual footprint. I would suggest using wood, tile, or if you are on a tight budget laminated flooring for the living/dining/kitchen. Then use carpet in the more intimate spaces; bedrooms and possibly hallway. Save the tile for the bathrooms.

Debating replacing a 10 degree roof with a 45 degree roof to optomise going off the grid. Building is 9 metres wide [includes 500 eaves] by 12 metres long. We would increase the length to 16 metres to cover an existing deck with ancient corrugated plastic roof. Question is cost. We have the room to build the roof on site and crane into place otherwise make it offsite. We would need to put a couple of windows in length to give character. We would use dark grey ribbed coloursteel ideally and reclad south and west walls with the same material. Does anyone out there have an opinion?

If vertically fits perfectly then I would probably do that. As it's a feature wall and the others are in a standard subway pattern I'm sure it would still look good, as, in my opinion, the less cuts and grout in a shower situation the better.
