Obviously I don't know your lifestyle and my preferences might not be applicable, for some people being able to monitor the washing while cooking works, but I hate the idea of taking grubby gardening clothes and the like through the food zone.

The linen cupboard seems very out of the way for something which is likely to be most needed near the bedrooms and bathrooms. Is there a broom cupboard anywhere, the laundry seems a more logical location for that. What about items awaiting washing, will there be provision for hampers in the laundry or will everyone keep their stuff in their rooms until it goes in the washer?

"Functional" is really about how you want to use it.

We are not too fussed with linen cupboards near the bedrooms and bath no taking dirty laundry through scullery. personal preferences i guess. The linen cupboard here is too small in my opinion. i like the idea or side by side washer and dryer and raised so we dont have to bend down. I like the idea of having hampers of dirty clothes. Id like to have storage for broom and stick vaccum etc.

Can you post the rest of the plan? Currently a large part of the space allocated for the laundry and scullery is used up on walkway which seems a waste.

I would remove the sliding door, it takes up too much wall space that can be utilised. Replace with a glass hinged door in line with the entrance to scullery and laundry. What is the purpose of the scullery component of the room? What are you going to use this for? I would look at using the entire room for a laundry and a decent storage cupboard, BUT if there is a reason for the scullery area, then I would use the end wall, of laundry area as well. Then you can have side by side washer dryer on raised plinths, and utilise the end wall for storage cupboards etc. example of L shaped laundry’s in photos attached.

And also, where is your close line?? It looks as though the laundry and scullery are 1000mm from the boundary fence, so there is no room for a clothes line there. How would this exit work in practical terms. Will you end up walking back, through the house, to get to your outdoor hanging space? This closeness to boundary also asks the question as to why the sliding doors? Windows with fly screens would still give the same ventilation.

The house is getting moves 100mm north so it will end up being 1100mm. Not much room for a clothes line. Maybe a custom clothes line with long runs.

You can buy a retractable clothesline from Bunnings or similar retail shop. This would fit the space. HOWEVER, have you ever tried to hang clothing, sheets etc etc in a narrow space. It is not ergonomically good for you. You or whoever hangs the washing would be tight up against your fence or your home. Not the ideal situation when this is a new home and these things should be thought about when designing the home. Is there no other space in your yard this could be positioned?

And why are utilities on the north side of home? This should ideally be living areas.

The utilities are the south side.
