Looking for Ideas to Enclose Deck (10m x 2.6m)

Hi Houzz community,
I’m planning to enclose my deck, which is 10m x 2.6m, and I’d love to get some advice and design ideas. I'm thinking of using a combination of vinyl cladding and glass panels to create a living or entertainment space that can be used year-round.
Any suggestions on materials, designs, or things to watch out for during this project? I’d love to see photos of similar enclosed decks for inspiration!
Thanks in advance!

    Hi Naga Raj,

So many things to consider. This is not as simple as most would like to consider. Where to start????

Firstly, check with your council and what is required to do so.

Are you on a cross leased site? If so, you will need to comply with the rules that apply to that scenario.

What climate are you in? This will determine how much glazing/insulation/opening to design into it.

Is that your front door or back door that is mid way along the deck? What direction does the deck face? What rooms will you be enclosing by closing in the deck? There are ventilation requirements for most rooms that you may not comply with if you do this.

Roof height? The current deck roof is low and if enclosed, you may not be able to call this an habitable space and if not done well, may actually detract from the houses appeal and therefore, value in the future.

If you really want to proceed, you need to provide a proper floor complete with underfloor insulation. Are you opening up some of the spaces to this enclosed deck with french or sliding doors? If so, the floor levels will need to be matched.

How will you address a new entrance for the existing door? Will you go straight out or enter at the end of the deck? If straight out, do you need new stairs?

In terms of the wall enclosure, I am not a fan of vinyl cladding. It is cheap for a reason and will not add any value to your home. Stick with the same cladding the house already has or upgrade to a nice weatherboard or board and batten between the windows. What dierction is the deck facing? That will determine the percentage of windows that you should include. Will it be used 12 months of the year, effectively adding more full time living space or not to be used in winter when the space may be too cold? If it is just for the warmer months, you can just inclose it with insect screen like they do in the USA.

How much privacy do you want in the enclosed space? Keep as much window/transparent cladding as you can so the other rooms don't get too dark.

    C.

    More open for tropical climate

Nicely furnished for another living room

    Fully glazed for good light.

Keep the deck and glaze/flyscreen the exterior.

    New entry at the end.
