A small single sink in the island would help when preparing meals,washing food, getting a drink of water, adding water while cooking at the cook top, etc etc. if the occupants of your home can’t walk to the double sink in the pantry area, then you have more of a problem than whether to put a sink in the island. Make it be a house rule to put dirty dishes in the double sink. Don’t leave them lying around on the island.

How do you work in the kitchen? A sink should be handy to all food prep areas for all different reasons. Carrying boiling pasta water to empty etc etc. only you know how you and other house occupants use your kitchen.

You beat me to the sink hard up against the wall Paul. I would think to remove the wall so there's better space plus will work with the rubbish bin and cooktop. I would even consider making other changes. The coffee station shows a water connection so this is a perfect place for a small sink

Agree with above comments. Why have an enclosed WIP, with a door, which probably will never be closed. Remove the walls next to sink and the WIP area. The scullery/WIP room is not visible from the main living area so no need for a enclosed WIP.

Another vote against a sink without room on both sides. And it’s a hike from the tea/coffee station to the sinks to dump dregs or get water. I’d also question the wall ovens being hard up against the wall.

The more I look at the plan, the more things I find not very user friendly. Eg: the bin drawer is on the other side of the wall to sink. So scraping plates would not be a automatic excercise, prior to putting in the dishwasher. You would have to stand the other side of the wall for cleaning plates, before putting them in either the sink or the dishwasher.

I would measure the height of having two wall ovens and micro wave in the same tower. The highest appliance may not be accessible safely.

How wide is the freezer/fridge space? Needs to be wide enough for the doors of the appliance to open fully on a angle, not just at right angles. Otherwise you can not remove the crisper compartments or shelving for cleaning. It would be a shame for the fridge to have to be sticking out of recess about 150mm so you can open doors properly.

I like to move hot things from oven and sit them on the stove if it is not in use. So I would move them closer together. With the main sink I think having it in the doorway is not a great plan. Personally I would have it in the main kitchen space where I can reach it from the stove to fill the pot and perhaps more importantly drain the pasta water out etc. don’t want to carry heavy hot full pots too far. So what about the dirty dishes. Well most of the time it is just family. When u entertain move the dirty dishes to the pantry till I have time to deal with them later if u want. Or put a second sink there. All in all u may need 2 sinks and def I would do a 1 1/2 sink in the main rear bench.

The tea station could easily be in the pantry along with second sink make the current tea station a bar

Hello Alana, I have not read all the comments so hope I am not repeating myself myself but I think the bones are good. The fridge is in the right place and the tea station is wonderful. I do not think you need two sinks but I do think a wall oven tower where the bin is now is the best idea as it will store the microwave too. The bins under the sink is great and one long 600mm deep benching along the pantry wall for appliances to sit and be used is best. Do not separate the two areas with walls make it all one long bench and no return across the end as one dead corner is enough! I would also suggest there is space both ends of the island for stools to slip under so people can look at each other when sitting there: so much nicer than sitting all in the row! Cheers, Margot

If the island sink is there, it could definitely end up as the "catch-all" for dishes. A separate sink in the scullery might help keep that from happening. But if you really want the scullery to be the designated dishwashing area, you could make the island sink more for prepping or cleaning small items. That way, you still have the option without it becoming a dish magnet.

My 2cents worth -having both a compact double sink in the island (Abey Lucia )and a big sink in the pantry (oliveri sonnetto), I would hate to only have my sinks in the pantry -it would be a continual flow of traffic, mess and water drops from the kitchen to the pantry and back.
