Thanks for your advice. The screen door is needed because where we live there is quite a few mozzies especially in summer when you would want the door open the most. With our plan, where the exterior door could swing inwards, it will impede upon the fridge. Unfortunately the layout options of the kitchen is fairly limited. Those doors with the inset screen seem like a good solution which i had been looking at, however the little section u open will still impede on the fridge.
What would be ideal is a sliding screen that actually runs in between the cavity brick.

Can you widen the gap and have a glass sliding door? It’s difficult to do a cavity slider on an exterior wall. You could set your kitchen cabinets forward 100mm or so and create a fake cavity and use that to house a sliding door. Or go old school and use a hanging bead screen for the mosquitoes during mossie season.

The door opening outwards isn’t a big deal as it goes out onto a wooden verandah. And yes the design is definitely causing an issue. I have considered creating a cavity between the cabinetry and the wall to allow a sliding glass door. Possibly even take out the inner section of wall and put a lintel above to create a space for a glass slider.

If your plans are fora new kitchen what about moving peninsula to other wall and sliding fridge away from door

This was an excellent suggestion. Will have a play around with sink stove and ovens with this new layout. Thank you very much. Very glad I posted on here. Doesn’t quite solve the door problem however i might rely on security fly screened window above where the stove is for air flow and then do a wood framed glass exterior door with the built in Venetian blind or something like that.

Hello, Seeing the layout my thought was to make the peninsula bench off the other bench with the cook top and move the fridge to the dining end. Then what ever is in behind the door will be less intruded as you will probably go to it less often than the fridge. Then others have drawn an island which might be a better idea again as you do not have the dead corners: better and better. Then the door can open inwards as normal and the screen out which would be normal. GO well. Cheers Margot

The plan for the pantry was to have those pocket doors that slot back in so they aren’t in the way. I will have a play with alternate layouts however with the suggestions offered. Thanks all for taking time to reply.
