Architech designed, 1963. Sold last year. I saved the photos to use as inspiration. (I removed the address & real estate name). Not sure I'd go that wild with colour but I love it! Also love that floorplan. I like the storage behind the carport, but the foyer entryway seems over large. Thoughts from a passive solar angle?

are you the home owner planning a renovation or collecting plans for a new build?...depending on climate and location i like this style of house and the passive solar orientation should be ok but, as usual, i would suggest some variations eg steal some space off living areas to allow for bigger bedrooms, rearrange the entry to create a walk through study to the master suite and lots of other variations to make better use of similar floor area but i like the vintage bright colours after all the neutrals over the last few years

The ghost chairs are AMAZING! Very strong and stable. It brings a a lot of space for a small room and the loui style are very classy. Ok I will buy the table, it's goof price and I totally love it. I am living in a construction camp at the moment! Everything is a mess but I hope everything will look beautiful when the renovation finishes. I have just moved in with my partner, the typical manly man and I am the typical burly so it's hard to compromise in colours and styles! Plus there aren't many cost effective options in NZ so decorating is basically a mission!

There are many options for changing the look of your house. I would replace the windows with larger windows. You can put in tall windows and keep the same width. This doesn't require any structural changes. If you widen the windows you will need a structual analysis. However, if you want to really change the look, you could widen the openings and put in french doors on each side with a new balcony for each, or a balcony across the front. The balcony can be very shallow 6" or deep enough for a chair. It can be cantelevered. I would go for a contemporary look. I found some images to share for inspiration. If you decide to make the changes, I suggest that you hire a local Architect to help you acheive something really nice..........Your house has a lot of potential.

It sounds lovely. The ceiling will be more than suitable for a transitional style. I think the wainscoting would also be fine but as I'm cautious I'd be adding after I'd lived there for a while. It does seem more traditional than transitional. On the other side I'd love the bead boarding in the hall.

Ugly house to colourful house?

I want to paint the exterior of my ugly stucco beach house and garage . It’s on the shady side of a hill (damp, dark and gloomy in winter) so I want lovely warm colours. It was mostly built in the 1950s. I considered painting the upper level one colour and the lower level another colour so the eye is drawn to the horizontals. The joinery is mostly silver-grey aluminium. The roof is corrugated iron, currently unpainted. I’m inspired by some flower colour schemes, but I’m struggling. I usually use Resene paints. Suggestions from those who are good with colour would be most appreciated!

Gosh, no, not the owner. There were a few interesting architech builds around where I grew up & I had always wondered about this one.. finally able to view (online) when sold.

I was curious about the external walls that protruded out slightly on the north side. Maybe for morning shading?

might be meant for shading, extended roof support and also privacy between different areas of the paved outdoor areas
