Help! Which layout for kitchen in new house.
Comments (2)Unfortunately no. We are in the very early stages - have only just had first meeting with architect. Comment from people who have worked with galley, island peninsula, or L-shaped with work top in middle would be helpful, plus whether a walk in pantry is valuable. For most of the time, there will only be two of us at home, but we both like to cook, we are fairly sociable, and our family like to get involved when they are around. The kitchen will part of the main living area, and not closed off. Hope that helps....See Morewe need help refreshing our kitchen without changing the layout?
Comments (3)Depending on you budget, I'd replace the counter tops and flooring. I agree with removing the dark valances. Replace the top corner cabinets with 42" cabinets or remove entirely. The ones there are too small for the space. An island, not that you need the counter space would cozy up the area. Also replace the front on the dishwasher with stainless steel to match other appliances. Your layout is good, no changes there! If you decide on an island, you could include stools there and remove the current peninsula, this would open the area to what ever room is adjoining the space. Good luck and have fun. It is a really nice space....See MorePlans for a new build.
Comments (5)We are also building in Christchurch :) So also had to look at these kind of requirements for sun, but we had a much smaller section to work with (800sqm). If cost is OK ideally a 2 story would get light into more of the rooms. You also saod the street frontage is 35m but the plans say currently the width of the house is only 15m, so you could run more of the house along the frontage to get it aligned with North. Its a big section are you setting it very far back from the street? Or are you worried about privacy? Is there a view Northwards, otherwise if you can set back from the street and add hedging or plantings to increase privacy I would try and align as much of the living space to get the North and west sun. Depending on what your roof is like you could also add a clerestory to get light towards the back - we are using skylights as well for our back hall and bathrooms to make sure they get as much natural light as possible....See MoreKitchen lighting- new build.
Comments (0)My partner and I are designing our new build and we are now up to lighting, in particular kitchen lighting. We are having non-exposed scissor trusses in the living area with a lowered flat ceiling (2.4m stud) over the kitchen. Do we need pendant lighting? I am torn. I feel they are dust and grease gatherers, but also a great visual feature. I have attached a picture of our plan and inspiration for the living area. I am extremely grateful for any advice!...See More- 9 days ago
