Help on rear laneway house design.

Hello! I am building a home on a rear lanweway lot with a narrow pedestrian access leg to the front street.

Just an overview of the situation but not the issue:

The street address is that of the front street, however most houses in these scenarios have their front entrance off the rear laneway regardless of address.

There is no street parking on the main street or the laneway so people that know me will park at adjacent streets and come in through the laneway entrance door (or rear), and anyone else, postie etc, will have to buzz at a gate at my end of the pedestrian access leg. There's no perfect solution, but putting too much more thought into that means double entries and wasted space. A rear door somewhere is possible, but I'll need a gate regardless to stop people waltzing in so may be pointless.

The open space faces north.

The block is 17.5m wide x 17.2m deep.

I think this is done quite well but have the below concerns:

  1. The Kitchen not fitting into a rectangular shape with the living and dining. I really like the look of rectangular open plan. Also the internal corner where the glazing meets for some reason is not my thing.
  2. The Study Nook being a thoroughfare for guests to the Powder Room.
  3. The Alfresco feeling to me like a carport. Closed on 3 sides and only open on the narrow end.

I have included some options I have come up with to address issues 1 and 2. Kitchen is still a little off center though.

Issue 3, I'm not sure if it is an issue or if I'm over thinking it.

Husbands opinion is that issue 2 is not an issue and that option 2 secludes the nook too much (i.e not as convenient for multi tasking) and puts the Powder Room room in full public view.

And that with option 3 (still with powder room view issue) it's not ideal to internalise the Kitchen for range hood etc. Although the upstairs will probably not overlap there, just. Also elimates the nice garden entrance.

Note: Edits are crudely done in photoshop and some areas need more thought e.g. entrance in option 2 needing more depth.

I'd appreciate any input about the options, or any other suggestions!
