Master bedroom ensuite layout

Hello, I’m looking for some layout concepts for an ensuite and wardrobe combination within a 1.7m x 2.9m space. We need to retain the existing window. We prefer a 1500mm double vanity and a walk-in shower. Looking forward to seeing what configurations you’d suggest!

Does the plan relate to your question?? What are the measurements on the plan posted. If the bathroom is 21 foot wide, then that is 6 metres.

Thanks houssaon and rinqreation! Funny - hubby has the same 2 door hate! It sounds like I'm being outvoted on the shared ensuite idea. :) We've actually been set on both the configurations you suggested, we moved away from yours houssaon because we really wanted to keep a closed off office space (and hubby built the front deck and landing already for the door at the end of the hallway!). And I don't know why we shifted the door on the bedroom back to the same area, I think it was about having easy access to all the kids bedrooms. But maybe we should shift it back as you suggest rinqreation. Joice, the door at the end of the hallway is the front door, the entrance closest to the street, that you would come to first if you were a visitor. Not totally necessary, but we reinstated it before we decided we wanted the entrance up the stairs (middle bottom) which would be under a carport. Thanks for all your input!! It's really helpful to have some unattached opinions. I'm keen to hear from anyone else on the shared ensuite or 2 door hate question! :)

I think the first layout is fine. You might want to consider moving the door for the storage room of the master bedroom so that it opens into the hall. That way the kids can use it for overflow storage. Also, that hallway is big enough that I think it could hold a large armour, providing more closet space. (There's no need to sleep in the same room as your clothes, so long as they're not too far off.) Also, don't forget that while the drawing shows kids in double beds, this need not be the case, so there will be more room for furniture (dressers or whatever) in their rooms. Finally, that step to bedroom 4 will not be odd at all. I've seen it in other homes. It looks clumsy in the drawing but it isn't. What you'll see when you come up the stairs is a bedroom door on a slight diagonal. It's only an odd jagged step if you walk like a robot, in straight lines along the wall, which is what your eye is doing on the drawing but you won't do in real life.

Hi JT, It depends on how many bedrooms you need overall. With the downstairs bedroom, you currently have 6 bedrooms. Is that what you need? Depending on what type of guests you expect, it might be nice to retain a downstairs guest suite. Grandparents might like partial autonomy and separation from small children etc or might not want to climb all the stairs every day. Also if it is kept separate from the main family sleeping areas, you could 'let out' the guest room to a cousin or family friend in need for a short term if desired! What about putting the formal dining into the front lounge/bedroom and making the larger formal dining room into the guest suite. That way you could have the ensuite plumbing adjacent the laundry. You could make the window beside the garage a bit smaller for the ensuite to keep the bedroom space as large as you can. If it's for guests only, you can build a small wardrobe on the wall backing onto the stairs and maybe build in a small desk or dresser. This would give guests easy access to the kitchen too for that early cuppa. Good luck, C.

The poster said the space is 1.7 x 2.9m for combination wardrobe and bathroom. This would be a tight squeeze for both. Plus they want a 1500mm vanity. This is my suggestion. This would work in a space of 1.7 x 2.9m , but not with a wardrobe as well.

Sar, with adding on an extra 600mm to the space, yes that works. But the lengths of your 2 x 1500mm plus wall doesn’t equal 2.9m. How deep are your wardrobes. They should be 550 -600mm deep at the very least, especially if also allowing for doors on the wardrobes.

I would scootch the bed over a bit and see if a wall of cabinets will fit along the solid wall.

dreamer, the other side is supposed to be 1.4m. The wardrobes will be 600mm deep.
