Entranceway Dilemma

Hi there Houzzers, Does anyone have any lovely ideas as to what we can do to make our front entrance more appealing please? The prevailing winds come from the lower right hand corner of the picture straight through our front door when it is open and we need something to break this. There is a wee gap between the wall of the house and the brick pillar and the bricks are creamy white. Should we erect a dark stained chunky pergola with a glass roof on an angle, the same as the roof line above the door, or leave it and not build anything, instead just place high plants which we can move around but will also maybe mitigate the wind. What could make the entrance more appealing, does anyone have any ideas please?

How about putting a planter box from the pillar to the garage door and grow a vine up a trellis;)

A big potted colorful plant in the corner with a few smaller pots in a group would warm the entrance up immediately. Trees and hedges can block, slow and redirect the wind. A curving path from the sidewalk to the entry, lined with plantings.

I would build a fence wall of gray horizontal slats simulating the garage door and flue design which would form more of an exterior entry passageway. I'm not sure what to do around the gap- maybe just continue it there, in a narrow section.
