First timer renovating classic 1910s villa, currently struggling with whether to paint our wooden windows & trims white or leave it as is, or paint to a light pine color? Please give advice. Thanks.!
Looks like the dark window trim is trying to steal that beautiful ceiling's thunder. I have had both stained and painted trim. With stained trim I stayed with lighter colored, neutral/dusty wall colors as not to compete, lending a warm look. With light color, painted trim work, I could go more colorful and the trim really pops, Rooms look fresh and bright. Practically speaking: White trim required more frequent cleaning, but was much easier to repair and repaint the dings and scuffs. Polyurethaned wood trim required less maintenance but it was trickier, especially moisture and sun damage. Beautiful space, by the way!
HI -- I think it would look better to paint the window frames and the wall molding ,white . It's time and you could leave the base boards the dark or paint them white also.
I'd paint all the trim in the room off white. Going for more of a true white would lend a more modern appearance to the room. I think you should be true to the historic nature of the house and stick with off-white or something similar.
I think that painting the trim white would draw attention to the beautiful ceiling, and tie that entire area together. Another option is to paint the ceiling trim a semi-gloss brown that ties it to the stained woodwork (window frames, trim, base boards). If you kept the walls and ceiling the same color (white, cream, etc) it would really tie everything together and look beautiful. Try using a computerized paint program to envision it both ways, and see what you think. It's certainly a beautiful space, it just needs to be pulled together.
