I’ve recently installed a timber Venetian blind across a patio door approx. 2m wide. It’s really heavy and a lot of effort to pull it up every day. I was wondering if there is a pulley system or winch type thing I could get to pull it up?
Whoever suggested the Venetian over a sliding patio door, was not thinking. I would take down completely and install curtains or wide panel blinds. There is a maximum length for Venetian blinds, when they can not be installed to be pulled up. They are only tilted open or closed. You may have reached the verge of that maximum.
Your comment makes me feel really stupid, but it’s my first house and I didn’t know they weren’t supposed to be for doors. I assumed if they come in that size it would be ok. I can’t afford to buy something else. Are there any pullys or winch things I can get to help pull it up?
Hi Gemma... I would remove the Venetian blinds & try to sell them - try your local buy/sell pages on Facebook, Gumtree or eBay. I think trying to put up with your Venetians (when they make the simple task of letting in light or accessing your doors, just about impossible) will only drive you crazy. Use the funds from the sale to buy a few pair of curtains. Spotlight, eBay & Catch of the Day might surprise you with their prices - for a relatively low investment, you can have the privacy you want & the ability to easily open & close your curtains as needed. We went into a fixer upper house & renovated every single room. We were on a limited budget to style & furnish. In the spare room we used for when my mum would visit, we had a sliding door to an outside patio, garden & backyard. The cheapest & most aesthetically pleasing option was curtains. I purchased a pair of curtains that fit the width of the sliding door perfectly.... I fluked a pair of curtains on Catch Of The Day for $40 delivered. Not expecting much... but they were really nice! We bought the curtain rod from Bunnings. Very cheap resolution & Mum loved her curtains.... She was worried we’d spent a fortune lol :) would love to hear/see what you come up with. Nik
Hi Gemma, we all have trial and error, when moving to our first house. Don't worry, as suggested, look into selling the venetians and locate affordable brackets and curtains. Rule of thumb: vertical walkways require vertical fittings. All the best for you and your home.
