We are switching from tiles to timber flooring so a hearth needs to be installed under our freestanding fire. The hearth needs to measure 880mm wide x 930 deep. It's going to look obtrusive and stick out a long way. Moving the fire is not an option. I want the hearth absolute minimal in size and centred on our fire. I would also prefer it separated from the stairs that are right next to the fire as I feel an int we grated look just isn't going to look good.. An 880wide hearth will leave a gap of about 150 mm between the steps and the hearth. Any ideas appreciated.
