Consumables such as candles or mozzie candles are always handy. Put them in a lovely box or gift wrap them nicely.

Throws and mugs? Talk about a burden gift. I would feel feel obligated to keep many of these ideas so they could be displayed when the guest returns at a later date. Even if I didn't drink wine, at least I could pass it on to someone who would enjoy it.

I have a cupboard full of mugs and a throw seems a bit much and may not coordinate. Decor items in my opinion are tricky because people may not share your taste or have a place for it. I think anything consumable or is used or easily stored is good so no need for your host to find a place to display it. Homemade treats are always good . Local honey or jelly’s from a farmers market, praline almonds , handmade soaps and lotions could be nice . Candles always good. Cookbooks , meh, unless it is a collection of family favorites or your host is super into cooking. If your host has a special interest key in on that. I once bought a puzzle for a friend who liked doing them in the evening. In the end does anyone not like getting flowers or wine?
