People have been relying on their homes to provide new avenues of relaxation and respite since the beginning of the pandemic, and it shows in the emerging trends we’re seeing on Houzz, with searches for Japanese soaking tubs jumping by nearly 13x in Q2 2021, as compared to the same period in Q2 2020. Searches for fireplaces and bay windows quadrupled and sunrooms more than doubled.

2021 Houzz & Home Report found that outdoor projects are popular among nearly three in five homeowners (59%). Specific searches for yucca varieties have surged by 13x, since the same period last year. We’re also seeing an uptick in searches among the Houzz community for fencing, pool landscaping, rock gardens and balcony ideas.
Kitchen RefreshHomeowners on Houzz are searching for fresh design options that offer flexibility in the kitchen. Searches for kitchen bulkheads (up by nearly 7x), cabinets (up by more than 4x), kickboards (up by 3x) and storage (up by nearly 5x) create dual uses by creatively hiding appliance cables or cooking utensils away when not in use. Nearly up by 8x, searches for kitchen lights create tailored illumination in transitional kitchen (up by 4x) stations used for prepping, washing and socialising.
Hamptons Chic DesignHomeowners on Houzz may be looking to achieve the idyllic aesthetic with increased searches for inspiration on beach house exteriors (up by 6x) where to create this look, a material like weatherboard (up by nearly 2.5x) is commonly used. Inside, architectural features such as modern barn doors (up by nearly 6x) and cathedral ceilings (up by more than 2.5x) add a grounding quality to coastal-inspired interiors, when paired with luxurious hero accents like pendant lights (up by more than 2x), a staple decorative piece favoured by Hamptons design.
