Once you’ve seen dark walls in real life, it’s hard to underestimate their impact. They bring gravitas to a space, provide a cosseting feeling, and can make a room seem larger than it is (thanks to dark colours appearing to recede). They are also very forgiving of uneven or old surfaces. Here, we’ve rounded up 28 examples of dark walls from around the world, be it in living areas, bedrooms or kitchens. Each works beautifully in its space. Is it time for you to consider going over to the dark side?

My kitchen/dining room walls are all painted Taubmans" Cinderblock", a dark blue with a hint of purple and the walls in my bedroom are all Solver " Port Byron" which is a rich dark teal. The lounge is painted Valspar "Cornish Slate". My home is a small old ordinary Australian building and without the spare cash to do much in renovations I used paint and colour to add a sense of much needed impact.
This is a really helpful article. ive been thinking of painting the interior of my 1880s apartment in darker colours but have been ambivalent about it.
