Brief
Originally built in 1915, the design brief for the ensuite in this Federation home included retaining the archway and skylight, incorporating an element of blue, and creating a contemporary space that integrated with the rest of the home.
In particular, our clients requested a double vanity and walk-in shower area to accommodate their modern lifestyle.

Starting point
The archway and skylight formed the basis for the new design, with the stone top and drawer profile of the double vanity tying in with the classic archway mouldings.

Thinking behind the arrangement of furniture/fixtures
The inset bath was removed to make way for the walk-in shower and, by switching the shower to the opposite wall, the client also gained greater privacy. The skylight adds an abundance of natural light to the room and creates the illusion of an outdoor shower.

What challenges did you work around?
The key challenge was paying tribute to the heritage of the house, while creating a contemporary space with a luxurious feel. Due to the historical nature of the property there were a few structural and electrical issues, which meant we had to be creative with our design.

Why do you think this room works?
The open shower, together with the blue floor tiles and stunning textural herringbone feature tiles, create visual interest.
By competently addressing the challenges, and allowing the key architectural details to shine we, fulfilled the client brief, creating a contemporary space without disrupting the classic style of the home.
