Houzz Call: Show Us Your Snug
Does your house have a cosy little room to retreat to in winter? Show us by uploading photos in the Comments
In previous decades, the ‘snug’ or the ‘den’ was a necessity: take the smallest possible room, put in a fireplace and some seating, then huddle around it for warmth. It saved you from heating ‘the good room’, which was probably freezing and never sat in unless someone important came to visit. Now that we’re all living open plan, it’s easy to forget about these small, warm spaces that you can retreat to. So what has become of them?
Thanks to insulation and efficient heating, we don’t need to huddle in one room any more. But sometimes you want to, right? So we thought it would be nice to see yours – here’s how.
Your turn
Take a couple of good, high-resolution photos of your room and upload them in the Comments below. Make sure they’re well composed and of decent quality – blurry shots taken on your camera aren’t usually good enough.

Don’t forget to tell us about the space. Where is the snug in the house and what do you use it for? Reading books on Sunday afternoons or watching movies on a stormy night?
Tell us about your inspiration in decorating it (if any), and what challenges you faced. In essence: share everything that is interesting about the room, down to the collections you have on the shelves. We can’t wait to see them!

These days – well, hopefully – the snug is a bit more psychological. Maybe it’s the weather, or maybe it’s something we all yearn for deep down, but recently we’ve noticed that more and more houses have a separate, small living area, maybe with a fireplace and a television, and – even better! – with built-in furniture for naps.
