I completely disagree about the chandelier! I think they look tacky unless you have a grand victorian house with a ballroom or a large lobby, then chandeliers are definately out.
The things that make a house feel sophisticated for me are certainly a room being curated and styled, with groupings of favourite items, little vignettes that say who you are as a family. I grew up with an artist for a mother and now I appreciate how privileged I was to always live in beautiful spaces. And things do not always have to be expensive to be elegant.
Antiques are the one thing I think always makes a home look posh. Not everything being new.

My mum had a chandelier in her toilet, it was certainly a gorgeous talking point and it certainly showed the toilet in a gorgeous light, I always remember fondly of her excitement when it was installed, it looked absolutely gorgeous.

“Posh” (ie high end) homes these days are often a lot more understated, so for today’s ”posh” I would say less is more.
