The results are in! The Best of Houzz 2016 winners have been announced. Last year, thousands of photos from the work of home builders, architects, interior designers and other residential renovating professionals were saved to ideabooks for inspiration. The Best of Houzz design badges on professionals’ profiles reveal the best-loved projects on Houzz. If you see one of these awards, it means that one of his or her designs was voted by you (with your clicks) as one of the most popular photos of 2015.

Awards were given in two categories: Design and Customer Service. If you see a green Design badge on a professional’s profile page, that means one (or more) of the portfolio images was among those that were added to the most ideabooks in 2015.
These badges help homeowners find recommended architects, interior designers, tradespeople and other home professionals in metro areas across Australia and the rest of the world.

This Melbourne living room was among the most popular images added to ideabooks by users in 2015. Camilla Molders Design created this space with custom-made sofas and a stacked bluestone fireplace as the standout features.
From small to large, this living room was the most popular in Queensland by Bark Design Architects. This is a great example of the blurred line between indoor and outdoor living which we have become so fond of in Australia; a blurred line that isn’t becoming any clearer as we move on into 2016.
Searching for bedroom inspiration? This dark and moody navy colour scheme, lightened by light grey soft furnishings was saved to 3800 ideabooks – these two colourways were top of the game in 2015. “The bedside lamps add a dash of luxe to the master bedroom; I love them,” says Sisalla Interior Design director, Lauren Mercer.

This bunk bed set-up, designed by Diane Bergeron Interiors as a guest room on the Mornington Peninsula, was another hit with Houzzers. Each bed is a private sanctuary in itself with stacked curtains and orange Roman blinds to block out the light. Under-bed drawers keep guests’ things tucked away.
Houzzers love a beautiful bathroom. This design in Melbourne photographed by Urban Angles was particularly popular, having been saved to 31,000 ideabooks. There were many ideas to gather from this photo, from the polished concrete floors, to the timber vanity with creative storage.
A sleeker look can be seen in this Sydney bathroom by Nobbs Radford Architects. The minimalist approach to the design and monochromatic colour scheme made it a favourite. We have seen an increase in twin shower layouts coming through and this one is a great example of why this feature has grown in popularity.
The heart of the home, the kitchen, is a room in which both design and functionality are all-important. Karen Aston shows how the practicality can also look great. The timber adds warmth to this space and you really feel as though you could move around in this room. It was one of the most popular kitchen designs in Sydney and rightfully earned Aston a Houzz badge.
Many people find themselves stumped with what to do with the space under the stairs. This clever design by CplusC Architectural Workshop in Sydney shows how to have fun with an otherwise wasted space.
Josh Harrison has shared some beautiful landscape images and tips with the Houzz community since he joined in 2014. This pool, with its Moroccan-style influence, had Houzzers swooning. One user even admits that she has it as the screensaver on her phone!

Anyone else green with envy? It’s easy to see why this photo was saved to so many ideabooks. Sarah Davison has made the most of this home’s location and outlook by creating a dreamy, Mediterranean-inspired outdoor space to relax in.
A compact Melbourne apartment showed us how to capitalise on a small space. The photo of the wardrobe was a particular favourite of Architecture Architecture’s design with custom-made joinery keeping the homeowner’s belongings in order.

Sheds have come a long way since the rickety rusty tin structure we know too well. Backyard Room is a Melbourne company that designs pre-fab sheds for those wanting a backyard escape. Used for workspaces, art studios or just a private hangout area, we found out that Houzzers loved the idea of a bespoke outdoor retreat when we saw almost 8000 users had saved this image.
Pros also received badges for Customer Service, determined by a variety of factors, including the number and quality of client reviews received in 2015. Just look for a grey Service badge on the left-hand side of a professional’s page. Here you can see that Mark Scowen from Intense Photography earned both Design and Service badges in 2015.
