When we built our home 30 years ago, we planned much storage. Be careful what you store as now we are left with the dilemma of purging 30 years of "treasures" that should have been donated long ago. Once the door is closed, out of sight, out of mind and you're left with the enormous chore of cleaning most of it out years later!

I think when planning the storage it's more important to be able to put things away easily than to reach them easily... If you need that thing, you'll take it out, but if it's complicated to put it away, it will stay out forever, creating a nice big mess.

Thanks for featuring our project, but here is a better example! We continued our kitchen cabinets into the dining room space and this acts as a buffet counter too. The cubby hole cabinet on the right is manufactured laminate that was chosen to match our walnut cabinets. Same look but at a much lower price. Great storage for fruit, a wine rack, keys and phones with charging, and other knickknacks we wanted to display in a 14" deep space. On the right side of the island is a cubby with a quartz slab for the dog food and water, with the dog food and accessories in a cabinet right above it.
