Many thanks for the enlightenment. As a Buffalo, NY ex-pat, I have a deep love for Frank Lloyd Wright's work. I lived close to two of the houses he designed. One, was a true masterpiece, the Darwin-Martin House. http://www.darwinmartinhouse.org The house was designed as a unique residential complex for wealthy Buffalo businessman Darwin D. Martin and his family between 1903-1905. The most substantial and highly developed of Frank Lloyd Wright’s Prairie houses in the Eastern United States, The Darwin D. Martin House received National Historic Landmark status in 1986. The house is considered by leading Frank Lloyd Wright scholars as one of Wright’s finest achievements of the Prairie period and, indeed, of his entire career.

Great piece. I never considered this perspective. I fell in love with Japanese architecture through the work of Greene and Greene. I was told the same was true of FLW, but I am not certain that is true.

Superb article by an excellent writer and architectural guide. Recently, I was lucky enough to be part of a tour which featured her as the Tokyo guide: she (and her co-guide) were knowledgeable, fun, and interesting!
