Arts and Crafts Style Kitchen with Contrasting Finishes

Painted Arts and Crafts style kitchen with dark stained oak island. The central island contains a wide range of storage, drawers for pots and pans face the Aga, a wine rack and cupboards are on opposite sides, while a curved built in leather upholstered bench matches the shape of a specially designed Treske table. The island is made in oak that has been stained to a dark colour to accentuate the paintwork and give a traditional but modern feel to the kitchen. The Treske table is made in walnut with a shield shaped top, and is a size that gives generous flexibility seating for up to six people. The curved nature and orientation of the bench and table make the kitchen a relaxing and inviting space, without impinging on any cooking activities. Artisan Neva chairs were chosen as extremely comfortable and practical dining chairs. Above the Silestone Lyra worksurfaces are larder cupboards presenting easily accessible storage. Built in storage cupboards contain a full height Miele fridge and freezer.

A decorative wood hood enhances the craftsman style design. Stone and glass tile creates a stunning backdrop in the kitchen design's backsplash with a mosaic tile feature and a shelf included over the cooktop. This Mission style kitchen and breakfast nook was a complete gut and renovation for an active family with two teenagers. The Mission styling kept it streamlined, organized, and unfussy. Rich natural cherry cabinets with black hardware accented the black appliances and touches of black in the granite. There is a discernible balance of wood, glass, stone, and textiles in this design. The lighting fixtures are all Arts and Crafts designs from Quoizel in Tiffany look. Rugs are a family of flatweaves, reversible and ideal in high traffic areas. The club chairs in the lower right are near the mud room entrance and the perfect place for the kids to sit and work on homework (that doesn't require a desk) and socialize while dinner is being made. Creating this light, open inviting kitchen required a complete overhaul of the dark and enclosed feeling original space. we removed walls, bulkheads, added new walls to achieve an open area which nonetheless has a large walk-in pantry behind the oven/fridge. Beth likes Bali style interiors which we took as a cue for the colour/material/ finish choices. Solid tasmanian timber island bench top and floating shelving, sealed in Kunos from Livos gives a warm honey stain finish which is completely plant based. Chalk finish boards coupled with absolute matt cabinetry complements well. We also organised new floors where required (note the colour difference) which since has been all sanded back and "invisible" finished. to keep the vista unencumbered we also installed a recessed cassette range hood
