The Dining room, while open to both the Kitchen and Living spaces, is defined by the Craftsman style boxed beam coffered ceiling, built-in cabinetry and columns. A formal dining space in an otherwise contemporary open concept plan meets the needs of the homeowners while respecting the Arts & Crafts time period. Wood wainscot and vintage wallpaper border accent the space along with appropriate ceiling and wall-mounted light fixtures.

In this fairly new Arts & Crafts built home, we chose to use the philosophy of the A&C era, “truth to materials, simple form, and handmade” as opposed to strictly A&C style furniture to furnish the space. Using natural fabrics, reclaimed wood, copper, iron, stone, and antique accessories, the architecture and the furnishings now encompass a complementary, and fresh, relationship. More wall space = More windows. We can't get enough of this beautiful and unique dining room - the colors, the patio, the windows and natural light, the textures - we love it all!

Craftsman style house opens up for better connection and more contemporary living. Removing a wall between the kitchen and dinning room and reconfiguring the stair layout allowed for more usable space and better circulation through the home. The double dormer addition upstairs allowed for a true Master Suite, complete with steam shower! Photo: Pete Eckert

Our clients with an acreage in Sturgeon County backing onto the Sturgeon River wanted to completely update and re-work the floorplan of their late 70's era home's main level to create a more open and functional living space. Their living room became a large dining room with a farmhouse style fireplace and mantle, and their kitchen / nook plus dining room became a very large custom chef's kitchen with 3 islands! Add to that a brand new bathroom with steam shower and back entry mud room / laundry room with custom cabinetry and double barn doors. Extensive use of shiplap, open beams, and unique accent lighting completed the look of their modern farmhouse / craftsman styled main floor. Beautiful!

Architect: Michelle Penn, AIA This Prairie Style home uses many design details on both the exterior & interior that is inspired by the prairie landscape that it is nestled into. When you walk in the front door, you have this amazing view looking right through the dining room windows. It makes for the perfect place to entertain. Our client came to us for a major renovation of the old, small house on their property. 10 months later, a brand new 6550 square foot home boasting 6 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms, and a 25 foot vaulted ceiling was completed. The grand new home mixes traditional craftsman style with modern and transitional for a comfortable, inviting feel while still being expansive and very impressive. High-end finishes and extreme attention to detail make this home incredibly polished and absolutely beautiful. From the soaring ceiling in the entry and living room, with windows all the way to the peak, to a gourmet kitchen with a unique island, this home is entirely custom and tailored to the homeowners’ wants and needs. After an extensive design process including many computer-generated models of the interior and exterior, the homeowners’ decided on every detail before construction began. After fine-tuning the design, construction went smoothly and the home delivered the vision. Photography © Avonlea Photography Studio
