These clients requested a highly functional backyard transformation. We worked with the clients to create several separate spaces in the small area that flowed together and met the family's needs. The stone fire pit continued the porcelain pavers and the custom stone-work from the outdoor kitchen space. Natural elements and night lighting created a restful ambiance.

We designed this informal, Asian inspired Zen garden with curved gravel paths, sitting areas with a fire pit, bamboo, and Japanese red maple. Their back yard was too shady to grow good grass so we made a great hang out space for them. Cutters Landscaping installed this project.

Modern glass house set in the landscape evokes a midcentury vibe. A modern gas fireplace divides the living area with a polished concrete floor from the greenhouse with a gravel floor. The frame is painted steel with aluminum sliding glass door. The front features a green roof with native grasses and the rear is covered with a glass roof. Photo by: Peter Vanderwarker Photography

This oriental-themed landscape invokes a feeling of tranquillity and serenity, whether the occasion is simply relaxation or friendly entertainment. Immediately connected to the outdoor kitchen area is a beautiful bluestone koi pool with water plants, fish and steppers, which leads to the spotted gum decking area and corten steel firepit. Under-lighting of the floating benches surrounding the decking creates a stunning seating area. The most visually striking feature piece of the landscape is without doubt the enormous Buddha, installed against stone cladding, rendered walls and timber screening. Incredibly impressive! Enhancing the oriental theme is an abundance of lush vegetation surrounding the entire area – clumping bamboo, a massive bird of paradise, trees, under-planting and a luscious lawn. Strategically placed garden lighting makes for a spectacular outdoor entertainment area for these lucky clients in Maribyrnong.

This Japanese inspired garden has a pond of stones a dry feature where paddle-stones provide the effect of ripples on water. Stunning resin bonded gravel and sawn York stone compliment the interior of the house whilst further into the garden roughly rivened stone gives an aged appearance. Lush and architectural planting soften and furnish the courtyard and provide a wow factor.
