This master bath layout was large, but awkward, with faux Grecian columns flanking a huge corner tub. He prefers showers; she always bathes. This traditional bath had an outdated appearance and had not worn well over time. The owners sought a more personalized and inviting space with increased functionality. The new design provides a larger shower, free-standing tub, increased storage, a window for the water-closet and a large combined walk-in closet. This contemporary spa-bath offers a dedicated space for each spouse and tremendous storage. The white dimensional tile catches your eye – is it wallpaper OR tile? You have to see it to believe!

The configuration of a structural wall at one end of the bathroom influenced the interior shape of the walk-in steam shower. The corner chases became home to two recessed shower caddies on either side of a niche where a Botticino marble bench resides. The walls are white, highly polished Thassos marble. For the custom mural, Thassos and Botticino marble chips were fashioned into a mosaic of interlocking eternity rings. The basket weave pattern on the shower floor pays homage to the provenance of the house. The linen closet next to the shower was designed to look like it originally resided with the vanity--compatible in style, but not exactly matching. Like so many heirloom cabinets, it was created to look like a double chest with a marble platform between upper and lower cabinets. The clients were keen to keep upheaval to a minimum so we kept the existing layout, meaning there was no need to relocate the services and cutting down the time that the bathroom was out of action. Underfloor heating was installed to free up wall space in this bijou bathroom, and plentiful bespoke and hidden storage was fitted to help the clients keep the space looking neat. The clients had a selection of existing items they wanted to make use of, including a mirror and some offcuts from their kitchen worktop. We LOVE a no-waste challenge around here, so we had the mirror re-sprayed to match the lampshades, and had the offcuts re-worked into the surface and splash back of the vanity.

(It’s also the most budget-friendly option in terms of plumbing). Maybe separate rooms for toilet and shower make sense? Maybe you want to work with a window above a bathtub or in the shower. 2 Consider How You Use Your Bathroom
