Using flatter pebbles in the shower and niche ties the shower to the tub area. The homeowner needs to use the grab bar when using the shower. The longer grab bar also serves as a handheld holder. Photography: Blue Gator Photography

After gaining space for a master bathroom from the house addition, this beautiful wet room design was developed. Decorative wall tile, a white drop-in tub, pebble tile and a glass door keep this homeowner happy, relaxed and clean. Photos courtesy of Jesse Young Photography

Architect: Michelle Penn, AIA This traditional European Romantic style home was designed to be mainstream, but is also a high tech, super efficient home. It is a Net Zero home that produces as much energy as it uses in a year. We wanted to make a compact plan so the walk-in shower is just the right size! Not to big, not too small! This modern bathroom remodel utilized natural light and organic, fluid tile design to create a sense of tranquility. The creative use of multi-colored pebble tiles, contrasting grout tones and outside-the-box design elements make the space feel lighthearted and playful, as well as spacious and grounding. The floors were salvaged from a local high school gym and the door leading into the master bathroom was custom made with a window re-light that aligns with the window in the shower. This allows for fluidity of light and space when the door is in the open position.
