To create a stately Master Bedroom NSD began with finding the perfect emerald green wall colour. From there we layered in grandiose furnishings and rich textures. The result was a polished space suitable for both the husband and his lovely wife.

A custom made hand hammered silver head board sits proud above the bed in this master bedroom. Two different rough wood dressers are used as nightstands and above them sit these vintage mercury glass lamps (Italy, 1950's). An oversized custom wool and silk blend rug sets a muted backdrop so lavenders and grays can come through the linen fabric used for the window treatments and bedding. Sferra bedding is used as the basic white, and custom made pillows tie the room together. White and silver cowhides cover portions of the large rug. A daybed sits in front of the king size bed, providing another layer of softness in this room.

Transitional Mountain Retreat, Full Home Design

High ceilings and ample windows offer plenty of light and an amazing view in this neutral master bedroom. Woven blinds and ivory and beige embroidered draperies hang from bronze hardware, adding subtle pattern and texture. Dark walnut stained flooring rests under a large, upholstered bed covered in an ivory vinyl and trimmed with bronze nail heads. The bedding, from Legacy Linens, has simple elegance, while hand embroidered pillows finish off the look. At the end of the bed sits a bench covered in a soft, sage green ultra-suede. Antique brass lamps filled with river rocks sit atop bedside tables, painted black and accented with metallic copper Greek key designs. Interior doors, painted charcoal grey with bronze door hardware, add just the right amount of contrast.

Hill Country Residence

Nestled into sloping topography, the design of this home allows privacy from the street while providing unique vistas throughout the house and to the surrounding hill country and downtown skyline. Layering rooms with each other as well as circulation galleries, insures seclusion while allowing stunning downtown views. The owners' goals of creating a home with a contemporary flow and finish while providing a warm setting for daily life was accomplished through mixing warm natural finishes such as stained wood with gray tones in concrete and local limestone. The home's program also hinged around using both passive and active green features. Sustainable elements include geothermal heating/cooling, rainwater harvesting, spray foam insulation, high efficiency glazing, recessing lower spaces into the hillside on the west side, and roof/overhang design to provide passive solar coverage of walls and windows. The resulting design is a sustainably balanced, visually pleasing home which reflects the lifestyle and needs of the clients. Photography by Andrew Pogue

Never judge a book by its cover they say. Axis Mundi takes that adage seriously. The circa 1920s facades of these townhouses by Percy Griffin may read neo-Georgian. But behind the door of this particular residence, glass and oak are paired to impart a warm contemporary aesthetic that better showcases the client’s collections of art by Andy Warhol, Arman, Robert Longo, Alex Katz and Lucio Fontana, and furniture by modernist icons Jean Prouvé, Charlotte Perriand and Roland Rainer. Axis Mundi gutted the genteel, compartmentalized (read: dark) inner scheme, blowing it wide open to impart a new loft-like interior architecture outfitted with an exposed oak-and-Caesarstone kitchen and plenty of integrated, clutter-concealing custom storage along many walls. The glass—sandblasted on Poliform doors and a main-floor bridge, then descending in transparent railings along a new oak staircase to a garden level—invite light in and encourage it to ricochet freely throughout. The back wall is treated with ROMO wallpaper made to glisten like a seashell. Bedding is from Thread Count. The white glass porcelain floors are from Opustone. The ottomans and nightstands are from CasaDIO. Modern dropped ceiling features contempoary recessed lighting and hidden LED strips.
