The primary goal for this project was to craft a modernist derivation of pueblo architecture. Set into a heavily laden boulder hillside, the design also reflects the nature of the stacked boulder formations. The site, located near local landmark Pinnacle Peak, offered breathtaking views which were largely upward, making proximity an issue. Maintaining southwest fenestration protection and maximizing views created the primary design constraint. The views are maximized with careful orientation, exacting overhangs, and wing wall locations. The overhangs intertwine and undulate with alternating materials stacking to reinforce the boulder strewn backdrop. The elegant material palette and siting allow for great harmony with the native desert.
The Elegant Modern at Estancia was the collaboration of many of the Valley's finest luxury home specialists. Interiors guru David Michael Miller contributed elegance and refinement in every detail. Landscape architect Russ Greey of Greey | Pickett contributed a landscape design that not only complimented the architecture, but nestled into the surrounding desert as if always a part of it. And contractor Manship Builders -- Jim Manship and project manager Mark Laidlaw -- brought precision and skill to the construction of what architect C.P. Drewett described as "a watch."

Aspen Design Room
This mountain modern bedroom furnished by the Aspen Interior Designer team at Aspen Design Room seems to flow effortlessly into the mountain landscape beyond the walls of windows that envelope the space. The warmth form the built in fireplace creates an elegant contrast to the snowy landscape beyond. While the hide headboard and storage bench add to the wild Rocky Mountain atmosphere, the deep black and gray tones give the space its modern feel.

Because our home is a two-bedroom, we use our second room for an office and guest room. We built a custom lofted bed and bookshelf out of salvage robin's egg blue bead board and sustainable plywood. Simply climb the large lip of the book shelf ladder to get to your own lofted space, equipped with a 3/4 full mattress and plenty of pillows.

The space needed some detailing to balance the large volume. The open plan also required a visual delineation of the different areas. Our designer added three beams across the ceiling over the bed to define the master bedroom. The beams were finished with the same dark stain used to refinish the attic’s original pine flooring. Dimmable recessed lights in the ceiling are placed in accordance with the beams location
The bathroom was a challenge because it has privacy walls. Our designer opted to use continuous clerestory glass panels that wrap around the corner of the bathroom enclosure. These custom glass pieces allow light to flow from the dormers and skylight into the bathroom.
There are two good-size closets for the owners in the eaves, and additional storage, as well as the HVAC system is also located in the eaves and access through two doors—one next to the bed and one in the bathroom.

The colors of teal and blue in this master bedroom echo the colors of the Arizona sky outside, with views for miles over Scottsdale and Phoenix. A custom area rug anchors the bed and seating, giving warmth to the room.
