For this hockey player's bedroom, a custom knee hockey goal was designed for practice off the ice. The Boston Bruins color scheme adds to the overall hockey aesthetic of the room.

Tania Scardellato from TOC design This young couple needs adult time, a space that they can retreat in from their very busy lives, a place they can be grown up in. Funny how this house was laid out; all the rooms are small but the master was more like a dance floor. I decided to add an island wall, dividing the space so that they could have the look and feel of a walk in leading them to on suite bathroom and using the opposite side the wall to house yet another dresser and TV. The bay window was the perfect space to add 2 very yellow swivel chairs to sit and relax and enjoy the peaceful view. Centering the bed with 2 small dressers instead of night tables not only gives more storage, but more surface as well as makes the space appear larger than it is. I wanted this room to be relaxing but cheerful as well, hence the yellow, It is like bringing the outdoor nature in to the room and blending it to perfection.

An existing house was deconstructed to make room for 7200 SF of new ground up construction including a main house, pool house, and lanai. This hillside home was built through a phased sequence of extensive excavation and site work, complicated by a single point of entry. Site walls were built using true dry stacked stone and concrete retaining walls faced with sawn veneer. Sustainable features include FSC certified lumber, solar hot water, fly ash concrete, and low emitting insulation with 75% recycled content. Photos: Mariko Reed Architect: Ian Moller

Designing a 10 year old’d bedroom was such a fun project for Kathryn. Her client’s brief was to create a beautiful bedroom that was full of colour and imagination with furnishings that could see her daughter Ava into her teenage years. With a soft gelato colour palette and a mix of patterns in soft coloured fabrics Kathryn created a bedroom that is bright and beautifully styled, just perfect for Ava to enjoy for many years to come.

Jamie absolutely loves American folk art, country fabrics, Shaker furniture, decorative paint and quilts. If she could pack it up and move to a B&B in the mountains she’d go in a heartbeat. In fact, she is still looking for that perfect cabin in the local mountains, and when it’s found... we’ll be decorating that too. Jamie's bedroom is truly one of the most relaxing places on earth. The bedding, pillows, drapery, chairs and ottoman are all custom made using fabrics I selected. The wool rug is from the same vendor as the dining room rug and the colors are just fabulous. The walls are finished in a subtle glaze with a leaf pattern crowning the doors and windows. There is a view of a local lake out the window., and a library wall which will eventually be full of books but for now is treated with accessories. The chairs are inviting in a nubby creme fabric with the black and white toile used as piping. The ottoman has a nice durable fabric at the top, so you won't hesitate to put your feet up... again, and again...

Sometimes what a small bedroom needs is a rich wall colour, to create a cosy inviting space. Here we have Yellow Pink, by Little Greene Paint Company looking fabulous with Wimborne White on the woodwork and ceilings and Elmore fabric curtains in Feather Grey by Romo. We have managed to squeeze a small double bed in, with a bedside chest of drawers and a beautiful linen cupboard too. Check out the original tiled fireplace, what beautiful soft grey tiles, a dream to match up to.
