Anne MeunierLa cuisine a été déplacée et recréée dans la salle à manger. J'ai opté pour une cuisine ouverte IKEA avec des façades de meubles hauts superfront. Tout l'essentiel est là, four combiné, plaque, lave linge frigo bas et en haut la hotte et des placards hauts. Dans une harmonie de gris et beige la cuisine s'harmonise avec le bois du sol et le béton des suspensions.
The Kitchen Lady UKThe Project
Una and Pat bought this house with their young family and spent many happy years bringing up their children in this home. Now their children have grown up and moved away, it was time to update the house to fit their new lives and refresh their style.
Awkward Space
They had already undertaken some large projects years beforehand, adding a wrap around extension that linked their kitchen and garage together, whilst providing a dining room and utility space. However, by keeping the original kitchen, guests were squeezed passed the chef by the door, shown through the utility room before sitting down for their meal in a room that felt quite isolated from the rest of the house. It was clear that the flow just wasnt working.
By taking the rather radical step of knocking through an old window that had been blocked up during the extension, we could move the doorway towards the centre of the house and create a much better flow between the rooms.
Zoning
At first Una was worried that she would be getting a much smaller kitchen as it was now fitting into the utility room. However, she didn't worry long as we carefully zoned each area, putting the sink and hob in the brightest areas of the room and the storage in the darker, higher traffic areas that had been in the old kitchen.
To make sure that this space worked efficiently, we acted out everyday tasks to make sure that everything was going to be in the right space for THEM.
Colours & Materials
Because we used a local cabinetmaker to turn plans into reality, Una had an almost unlimited choice of doors to choose from. As a keen amature artist, she had a great eye for colour but she was even braver than I had expected. I love the smoked woodgrain door that she chose for the base units. To keep the bright and calm feel, we paired it with a soft grey door on the wall and tall units and also used it on the plinth to create a floating feel.
Una and Pat used a new worktop material called Compact Laminate which is only 12mm thick and is a brilliant new affordable solid worktop. We also used it as a splashback behind the sink and hob for a practical and striking finish.
Supporting Local
Because we used a local cabinetmaker, they could add some great twists that we couldn't have had from buying off the shelf. There is actually a hidden cupboard in the area going through the arch, a handle would have been a hip bruiser so we used a secret push to open mechanism instead.
They also took that extra care when making the units, if you look carefully on the drawers, you will see the same grain runs down all three drawers which is beautiful.

Anne Chemineau - Decor InterieurUn appartement des années soixante désuet manquant de charme et de personnalité, avec une cuisine fermée et peu de rangement fonctionnel.
Notre solution :
Nous avons re-dessiné les espaces en créant une large ouverture de l’entrée vers la pièce à vivre. D’autre part, nous avons décloisonné entre la cuisine et le salon. L’équipe a également conçu un ensemble menuisé sur mesure afin de re-configurer l’entrée et le séjour et de palier le manque de rangements.
Côté cuisine, l’architecte a proposé un aménagement linéaire mis en valeur par un sol aux motifs graphiques. Un îlot central permet d’y adosser le canapé, lui-même disposé en face de la télévision.
En ce qui concerne le gros-oeuvre, afin d’obtenir ce résultat épuré, il a fallu néanmoins reprendre l’intégralité des sols, l’électricité et la plomberie. De la même manière, nous avons créé des plafonds intégrant une isolation phonique et changé la totalité des huisseries.
Côté chambre, l’architecte a pris le parti de créer un dressing reprenant les teintes claires du papier-peint panoramique d’inspiration balinaise, placé en tête-de-lit.
Enfin, côté salle de bains, nous amenons une touche résolument contemporaine grâce une grande douche à l’italienne et un carrelage façon marbre de Carrare pour les sols et murs. Le meuble vasque en chêne clair est quant à lui mis en valeur par des carreaux ciment en forme d’écaille.
Le style :
Un camaïeu de beiges et de verts tendres créent une palette de couleurs que l’on retrouve dans les menuiseries, carrelages, papiers-peints, rideaux et mobiliers. Le résultat ainsi obtenu est à la fois empreint de douceur, de calme et de sérénité… pour le plus grand bonheur de ses propriétaires !

Cabinet-S-TopIn this kitchen, we installed Waypoint Living Spaces 644S door style, full overlay Maple cabinets in Cognac color accented with Richelieu Expression transitional metal pull in brushed nickel. The countertop is Formica Belmonte Granite – Etchings finish. We reinstalled the homeowners existing sink and faucet. New LED downlights were installed with two Kichler pendant lights over the peninsula.
The Kitchen DesignerWalls were removed and doors moved to open this kitchen to the living/dining room and outdoor living. External door to the laundry was removed and a matching window at splashback level was installed. The existing slate floors were retained and repaired. A warm white laminate was used for the main doors and drawer fronts with timber veneer highlights added to open shelves and overhead cabinets. Black feature canopy chosen to match the floor and black glass induction cooktop. A pullout spice cabinet beside the cooktop and adjacent pantry provide food storage and lots of drawers for crockery, cutlery and pots & pans.
