This was such an enjoyable project because we had a trusting client with a vision of what they wanted in their existing yard and knew they had a talented team of artisans that could help transform their yard. Rectangle Pool with Vanishing Edge, Automatic Pool Cover

This pool has four different levels with the spa being the high point of the project 30" above finish floor of the house, level two is the glass tile wet deck just below spa spillway, level 3 is the main pool, level four is the lower trough which is at rear patio level. Homes that do not have the proper slopes for vanishing edges, can reverse the topo and create the negative edge that faces the house for a dramatic view, and create wonderful flows of water running towards the house and create incredible views

EP Architects, were appointed to carry out the design work for a new indoor pool and gym building. This was the fourth phase of works to transform a 1960’s bungalow into a contemporary dwelling. The first phase comprised internal modifications to create a new kitchen dining area and to open up the lounge area. The front entrance was also moved to the south side of the property. The second phase added a, modern glass and zinc, first floor extension which contains a master bedroom suite and office space with a balcony looking out over the extensive gardens. The large ‘pod’ extension incorporated high levels of insulation for improved thermal performance and a green roof to further save energy and encourage biodiversity. The indoor pool complex includes a gym area and is set down into the sloping garden thus reducing the impact of the building when viewed from the terrace. The materials used in the construction of this phase matched those of previous phases including a green roof. EPA worked closely with XL Pools to incorporate their one piece module which was brought onto site and craned into position. The southern aspect of the pool building is exploited with glass sliding doors which open the whole space up to the garden creating wonderful place to relax or play.

Modernism and traditionalism are just steps away from each other at this Vienna Virginia pool house. The main house, built by a national homebuilder, draws upon tradition, but the pool house, speaks the language of contemporary minimalism. It presents clean lines and a soaring roofline overhanging tall glass doors and clerestory windows. Great design, careful attention to detail, first-rate materials and impeccable craftsmanship have yielded a spectacular solution for outdoor entertaining. With a fireplace and every conceivable convenience under roof, this pool house might just be the perfect escape for inclement weather as well. A quick look through the glass front door of this home allows you to see through the house to the paradise that awaits. Toll Brothers desired for this luxurious zero edge, beach entry pool to include a cabana with a spa capable of being closed-off entirely. Expert design and installation left them completely enamored with their outdoor space. The cabana was constructed at pool level, with a zero edge completely around it, requiring the footings to actually be built into the pool. It showcases a large water feature, as well as glass walls that can completely close, providing privacy for the spa. We worked alongside the contractor for the cabana while constructing the pool so that we could properly install the elements for both portions of the project. The beach entry has several colors of mosaic tile, installed by hand to create a gradient of color, as though walking from sand to deeper water. The entire front portion of the pool is a beach entry, allowing guests to walk straight from the outdoor patio into the pool. The back of the pool is a negative edge, creating an expansive, ocean-like feel to the space. The landscape was designed to coordinate perfectly with the pool, featuring a large grassy peninsula that jets into the water. Multi-trunk King Palms were craned over the house and delicately placed into the middle of this oasis. They are surrounded by artificial turf ensuring easy maintenance and a clean line along the zero edge. This luxurious, resort-style pool and spa allows ample space for lounging on the beach, relaxing in the spa and swimming in the colorful lagoon.
