A hip young family moving from Boston tackled an enormous makeover of an antique colonial revival home in downtown Larchmont. The kitchen area was quite spacious but benefitted from a small bump out for a banquette and additional windows. Navy blue island and tall cabinetry matched to Benjamin Moore’s Van Deusen blue is balanced by crisp white (Benjamin Moore’s Chantilly Lace) cabinetry on the perimeter. The mid-century inspired suspended fireplace adds warmth and style to the kitchen. A tile covered range hood blends the ventilation into the walls. Brushed brass hardware by Lewis Dolan in a contemporary T-bar shape offer clean lines in a warm metallic tone.
White Marble countertops on the perimeter are balanced by white quartz composite on the island. Kitchen design and custom cabinetry by Studio Dearborn. Countertops by Rye Marble. Refrigerator--Subzero; Range—Viking French door oven--Viking. Dacor Wine Station. Dishwashers—Bosch. Ventilation—Best. Hardware—Lewis Dolan. Lighting—Rejuvenation. Sink--Franke. Stools—Soho Concept. Perhaps one of my favorite projects of the year, this historic home on Broadway in Saratoga Springs deserved the finest of kitchens. And that it always fun to design. The real challenge here was to capture an understated elegance worthy of the history of the home, the street, the town itself. This particular refinement meant having the sum of the parts be greater than the whole…meticulous focus on every detail to create something grand but livable, historically appropriate but adapted for today’s modern family, luxe but quietly graceful. Some of the details include a beautifully detailed wooden hood, a rolling ladder to access the double stacked upper cabinets which feature antiqued mirror inserts, a substantial, grounding quarter sawn oak island in a contrasting nut brown finish as well as historically appropriate hardware contrasted with modern fixtures and lighting.

Beautiful subdued elegance permeates this kitchen, with its hints of farmhouse style and gorgeous stones. The counter and large island are finished in a Brazilian granite called New Kashmir. The Farmhouse sink is a nice feature for the island. The beautiful backsplash above the stovetop is made with blue-gray hand painted Ceramic tiles, called Duquesa. The white Shaker cabinets, warm hardwood flooring and the large island all speak of the lowcountry, easy living and coastal charm. Love this kitchen!
