NBC Dressing Room: The Roots Retreat

By Monday, we wanted to surprise them with their own (stocked) Brooklyn bar. New brick walls were added and tagged with Nina Simone, vintage mint booths, a live-edge table top, custom light fixtures, and details create a chill spot. Antler bottle openers, Moroccan rugs, hat holders to display Tariq’s collection, vintage bar-ware and shakers... The collected parts are all as authentic as The Roots. “I wanted to give the Roots a real spot to feel good and hang in, not just a place to change. The bottle cap tramp art and history / cultural references of the collected items in this room were a tribute to the smart timelessness of the band… and of course we made sure that the bar was fully stocked…” - Kyla Design Deep Dives Industrial sculpture from a mill in New Bedford, MA, tramp art sculpture made from prohibition era bottle caps, Arthur Umanoff chairs, upcycled steel door, bent steel sculptural lamp (Detroit artist)

This bar lives in the kitchen space, just off the living room. For the cabinetry, a custom dark stain was used on rift cut white oak in Grabill Cabinet's Lacunar door style. Utilise an awkward corner with a cabinet bar; maximise floor space with a trunk bar, which unfolds to create a bar counter; or conveniently turn any space in your house into a bar room with a mobile bar such as a fun bar cart. If you prefer a more grandiose option, or all the amenities of a real bar, you can’t go past a built-in eclectic home bar.

What home bar functionalities do you want to include?

Decide how you will use the bar and whether you will need sinks, storage and refrigeration. Including a sink in your eclectic home bar design is a practical addition if you choose a location far from your kitchen. If you’re a wine connoisseur, you may want to include additional wine storage, whereas a mini bar fridge within the kitchen may need no extra storage at all. What bar furniture will you need?
