This unique home on edge of downtown Calgary is a longer term project we had the privilege to design and implement. We were involved early in the extensive renovation process to provide input on design elements and help resolve logistical issues on the site. Among the many elements in the garden a large water feature was desired, in part to help mask traffic noise, as well as numerous areas to entertain, relax, and explore. Both large and dry-pack Rundlestone was utilized along with stamped concrete for much of the hardscaping. The slope was manipulated to construct the water feature which includes numerous falls, a stream, pond and bio-filter. Stucco walls were constructed on part of the property and river-stone walls were reconstructed to match the existing walls from the previous development. Extensive plantings throughout the grounds highlight and accent the hardscape and were designed for four seasons of interest.

These Swirls 4x4 Bollards are used for driveway lighting on this residential project. The bollards are 37 inches tall and thus, they still "clear" most Minnesota snow banks in the winter! All our bollard lights mount on concrete piers for great stability, too! These landscape lights provide artistic sculptural markers for the driveway, day or night. This water feature doubled as a retaining wall. The addition of a water feature in a front yard provides a wonderful backdrop for guests coming over. At night, the illuminated water adds mystery to the house. The plants surrounding the waterfall were chosen for height and color. There is no need to water here as the spray from the waterfall keeps things lush.

Close up view of the dining gazebo and it's flooring made of slate nugget gravel: an inexpensive way to create a stable, well drained surface. Lush gardens that attract birds, butterflies and hummingbirds, surround the gazebo for added interest. Photographer: Danna Cain, Home & Garden Design, Inc.
