Turning into the living spaces, the clients decided to take down the wall of a small third bedroom, making the living room an expansive area, loosely divided by the placement of furniture into a formal lounge, and then a space which acts more as a sunroom/reading room. It is more cosy, more intimate. The flexibility of bringing both spaces together for a large gathering is perfect for this couple who love to entertain.

This is a living room designed by Jaimie Belew for the project of "Antiques in Modern Design". Here Jaimie has mixed a 19th century Swedish fainting couch with a mid century modern buffet. This layered look exemplifies the mix of the mid century and the antique in the modern setting.

These young hip professional clients love to travel and wanted a home where they could showcase the items that they've collected abroad. Their fun and vibrant personalities are expressed in every inch of the space, which was personalized down to the smallest details. Just like they are up for adventure in life, they were up for for adventure in the design and the outcome was truly one-of-kind. Photos by Chipper Hatter

Our 1917 home had plenty of character but a serious lack of storage, especially for books and our ever expanding collection of National Geographic magazines. These built ins are not only practical but also make the room seem much more lived in. Bonus? Guests always comment that they look like they've always been there! Photo by Conan Y. Fugit

What was once a blank canvas in the living room has now become a warm and energizing focal point. Our clients, lovers of literature, needed a home for their beloved book collection—and we delivered a space that’s as functional as it is beautiful. A full wall of custom built-ins now houses a thoughtful mix of open and closed storage, perfect for books, games, and personal treasures. But this isn’t just a bookcase. It’s an experience. By using the depth of the shelves to frame the passage into the dining room, we created a dramatic, immersive portal that draws you through the home. The shelves wrap you in a golden hug, painted in Sherwin-Williams Quilt Gold—a late-in-the-game color decision that ended up being one of the most joyful in the house. We paired Tedd Wood cabinetry with Amerock hardware to bring a polished, heritage feel to the built-ins while honoring the old-world charm we envisioned. It’s a nod to the classic libraries of another era, but with a vibrant twist that invites you to linger, explore, and get lost in a good book.

“Tropical. Victorian. Gothic.” This is the vibe my client wanted for the living room in their 1800’s farmhouse, and this is what I delivered. Admittedly though, I had to do a deep dive into inspiration pictures for a general direction, because, what an unusual ask in terms of concept! Ultimately, my goal for this project was a very moody, overly saturated space that evoked emotion and started a conversation. To start, I specified a heavily textured grasscloth wallcovering in teal and contrasted that with high gloss fuchsia and teal paint to trim out the entire room. This included the doors, fireplace, all window and door casings, and the wall area below the chair rail. Covering the shelter-armed, dramatic tufted sofa in a matching shade of fuchsia velvet is the centerpiece of the whole room and a true “wow” feature. The two French-inspired chairs are covered in a “drippy” teal damask with a contrasting black painted frame, giving a gothic vibe, while the crock embossed leather on the bench is exotic, playing to the tropical element of the space. Finishing off the space is the eclectic mix of lighting, pillows, and decorative accents used throughout. Although all elements seem to be pulled from different eras and genres, they all speak to each other through finish and scale, adding to the Victorian, eclectic, and collected design of the room. The color-drenched walls, lush textures, and eclectic accents are dramatic and a little over the top… but what else would you expect in a project that is tropical, Victorian, and gothic?
