Contemporary new home situated absolute waterfront on the magnificent Waiheke Island. The expansive kitchen, scullery, and dining areas are positioned above the sunken lounge and provided a platform to create a feature of the kitchen. Simple white cabinetry was used, which is paired with Petra Grey Granite and finished with blue glass splashbacks and island features. LED lighting features extensively under the shelves plus within the island; not only provides light to the area but imparts drama in the evening.

Two-tone kitchens are definitely still popular! This contemporary masterpiece achieves the motif with wet-look icy blue paint and richly-stained walnut for warmth. 1” thick slab doors and drawers sport a narrow trim around their edges. Double-stacked cabinets take advantage of the vaulted ceiling, and glass doors adjacent to the fridge display collectables. Paneled fridge columns, dishwasher, and wine fridge maintain continuity. The focal point is a free-form blue-pigmented steel chandelier, centered on the walnut island; brushed stainless and brass custom hood; and the walnut cabinets that flank it. Brass accents the cabinet pulls; satin gold highlights the pot filler faucet; the prep and main sink faucets; and the instant hot/cold faucet. Undermount sinks are white granite composite, while countertops and backsplashes are marble-patterned “Dekton” quartz material. Underfoot is a playful blue and white diagonal randomly-striped tile. Abundant seating is supplied by a cushioned walnut banquette bench backed up to the island, anchoring an entirely custom dining-height table: a shapely brass base with a glass mosaic and resin tabletop. Three brass and fabric stools tuck under the island, while six walnut chairs with donut-shaped backs encircle the table. All the fabrics on the cushions, stools, and chairs are custom-colored pale blue bouclé. This project was done in collaboration with KA Design Group. Photography by Julie Leffell.

A gorgeous kitchen showcasing a brand new color palette of gray and bold blue! As this was the client’s childhood home, we wanted to preserve her memories while still refreshing the interior and bringing it up-to-date. We started with a new spatial layout and increased the size of wall openings to create the sense of an open plan without removing all the walls. By adding a more functional layout and pops of color throughout the space, we were able to achieve a youthful update to a cherished space without losing all the character and memories that the homeowner loved. Designed by Joy Street Design serving Oakland, Berkeley, San Francisco, and the whole of the East Bay. Let's Talk Kitchens & InteriorsLet's Talk Kitchens & Interiors
Our client was undertaking a major renovation and extension of their large Edwardian home and wanted to create a Hamptons style kitchen, with a specific emphasis on catering for their large family and the need to be able to provide a large entertaining area for both family gatherings and as a senior executive of a major company the need to entertain guests at home. It was a real delight to have such an expansive space to work with to design this kitchen and walk-in-pantry and clients who trusted us implicitly to bring their vision to life. The design features a face-frame construction with shaker style doors made in solid English Oak and then finished in two-pack satin paint. The open grain of the oak timber, which lifts through the paint, adds a textural and visual element to the doors and panels. The kitchen is topped beautifully with natural 'Super White' granite, 4 slabs of which were required for the massive 5.7m long and 1.3m wide island bench to achieve the best grain match possible throughout the whole length of the island. The integrated Sub Zero fridge and 1500mm wide Wolf stove sit perfectly within the Hamptons style and offer a true chef's experience in the home. A pot filler over the stove offers practicality and convenience and adds to the Hamptons style along with the beautiful fireclay sink and bridge tapware. A clever wet bar was incorporated into the far end of the kitchen leading out to the pool with a built in fridge drawer and a coffee station. The walk-in pantry, which extends almost the entire length behind the kitchen, adds a secondary preparation space and unparalleled storage space for all of the kitchen gadgets, cookware and serving ware a keen home cook and avid entertainer requires. We designed the upper cabinetry to fit around the homeowners’ existing pot rack and the base cabinetry to accommodate two built-in ovens. The sleek, silver bar pulls complement the grey and charcoal tones of the kitchen and the pale granite counter tops. Displayed seashells accentuate the space’s beach style. -Allison Caves, CKD Caves Kitchens

This contemporary farmhouse is located on a scenic acreage in Greendale, BC. It features an open floor plan with room for hosting a large crowd, a large kitchen with double wall ovens, tons of counter space, a custom range hood and was designed to maximize natural light. Shed dormers with windows up high flood the living areas with daylight. The stairwells feature more windows to give them an open, airy feel, and custom black iron railings designed and crafted by a talented local blacksmith. The home is very energy efficient, featuring R32 ICF construction throughout, R60 spray foam in the roof, window coatings that minimize solar heat gain, an HRV system to ensure good air quality, and LED lighting throughout. A large covered patio with a wood burning fireplace provides warmth and shelter in the shoulder seasons. Carsten Arnold Photography
