We delivered this fireplace surround and mantle based on an inspiration photo from our clients. First, a bump out from the wall needed to be created. Next we wrapped the bump out with woodwork finished in a gray. Next we built and installed the white fireplace mantle and surround. Elizabeth Steiner Photography

Consideration of how a room will be used must happen before any seating arrangement or furniture needs can be determined. This great room is the central gathering hub for the recreational center and needed to function for a small event or large party. This neccesitated ample seating. Two sofas, fireside chairs, occasional chairs and bar seating ensure that everyone will be able to gather around for fellowship or simply watching a great movie. A combination of textures in the space adds variety and interest. Velvet on the sofas, leather barstools, a hair-on-hide rug, and embossed leather panels around the stone fireplace surround balance out the harder surfaces of stone, wood, metal, and plaster. This custom built-in white oak bookcase is refined and simple. Caroline Kopp had the back panel painted a soft grey and arranged the shelves with a monochromatic scheme of elegant sculptures and vases that is punctuated by the dramatic pop of deep pink peonies. Rikki Snyder

Welcome to the essential refined mountain rustic home: warm, homey, and sturdy. The house’s structure is genuine heavy timber framing, skillfully constructed with mortise and tenon joinery. Distressed beams and posts have been reclaimed from old American barns to enjoy a second life as they define varied, inviting spaces. Traditional carpentry is at its best in the great room’s exquisitely crafted wood trusses. Rugged Lodge is a retreat that’s hard to return from.
