APLD 2021 Silver Award Winning Landscape Design. An expansive back yard landscape with several mature oak trees and a stunning Golden Locust tree has been transformed into a welcoming outdoor retreat. The renovations include a wraparound deck, an expansive travertine natural stone patio, stairways and pathways along with concrete retaining walls and column accents with dramatic planters. The pathways meander throughout the landscape... some with travertine stepping stones and gravel and those below the majestic oaks left natural with fallen leaves. Raised vegetable beds and fruit trees occupy some of the sunniest areas of the landscape. A variety of low-water and low-maintenance plants for both sunny and shady areas include several succulents, grasses, CA natives and other site-appropriate Mediterranean plants complimented by a variety of boulders. Dramatic white pots provide architectural accents, filled with succulents and citrus trees. Design, Photos, Drawings © Eileen Kelly, Dig Your Garden Landscape Design

The landscape continues the party, providing additional gathering space while maintaining access for trailers and other large vehicles.

We created a beautiful drought tolerant landscape that blended in well with the surrounding hillsides. To ensure a healthy, vibrant environment for years to come, many colorful succulents, grasses, yuccas and flowering low-water perennials were used throughout the property, along with non-fruiting Olive trees and Palo Verde.

Large limestone slab steps take you down to the dining patio. Large granite boulders help retain the steep grade and add rustic interest. Lots of native plantings in and around the boulders help give this cottage landscape a very organic feel. The main patio features 4" thick limestone slabs some 5' wide by 20' long!

This is what the clients like to call "the reading house". Screened in doors allow for an inside-outside feeling to the house. Meandering gravel pathways and limestone steps make for a nice casual walk up to the reading house, which is nicely nestled in the forest.
